Purpose of role:
To undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to operations and other functions and ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.
Possesses in-depth knowledge of Power and Propulsion Systems Engineering, within a marine context most aspects within his/her discipline.
Able to perform analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements.
Has sufficient breadth of knowledge of warship design and the sound judgement needed to be able to make correct trade-off decisions.
Technical design & integration assessment of shipboard systems & provision of URN control advice.
Technical design assessment of ship systems & provision of N&V control advice.
Reporting on N&V measurement of ship's equipment and integration.
Carry out technical investigations to provide technical solutions.
Report against work programmes to ensure delivery.
System calculations, diagrams and drawings supporting Design and assessment tasks, specific to own discipline.

The ship project scope that this role is intended to service includes the integration of warship power & propulsion systems for the following types of vessel:-
Major Warships (e.g. Aircraft Carriers, LPD & LPH);
Frigates and Destroyers;
Minor War Vessels (e.g. Offshore Patrol Vessels, Corvettes & MCM Vessels).
This role will be required to support the design effort to integrate both functionally and physically the following systems:-
Engine Prime Movers
Propeller/Drive Shaft configuration
Main Propulsion Gearbox
Motors and Drives (Mechanical interfaces)
GT Gas Turbine install
The role is required to be experienced in delivering electrical engineering solutions that meet demanding customer requirements in all phases of a shipbuilding lifecycle from requirement to acceptance. The role holder will be able to perform robust and methodical analysis of engineering issues and possess the judgement to recommend preferred solutions.
The role holder will prepare system calculations, diagrams and drawings supporting design and assessment tasks for assigned areas of electrical power generation and distribution. The role holder will also be required to undertake software modelling tasks in order to aid and progress engineering solutions.
The role holder will be required to prepare engineering contractual documentation such as technical specifications and statements of work for equipment contracts.
An understanding of the transversal factors influencing warship power & propulsion system design including underwater radiated noise, shock, survivability, operability, reliability, availability, human factors, design for support, etc. will be required.
The role shall have sufficient breadth of knowledge of warship design to make sound and justifiable design trade-off decisions.
Computer Aided Design
This role will be expected to employ company computer aided design tools to conduct and manage the engineering, which includes but is not limited to following:-
CMPIC - Configuration Managed Project Integrated Cabling
WINDCHILL - Engineering Data Management;
AUTOCAD - 2 dimensional sketches, preparation of P&IDs
Microsoft OFFICE - document creation for reports, spreadsheets and presentations;
FORAN - for reviewing the 3 D model;
This role will oversee the creation of an integrated Bill of Materials (iBOM), specifying:-
In addition, the role will be expected to assist with the measurement of parts maturity and the preparation of the associated management data.
The role will be responsible for ensuring that the physical integration of the assigned systems is completed satisfactorily and without compromise to the design intent.
The role may also assist Power & Propulsion Compartment owners, responsible for ensuring a satisfactory physical integration of all systems in the compartments.
Maintenance of Design intent
The role will be required to oversee the maintenance of design intent through the stages of the product life cycle including Stage 2(&3) Design, manufacture, installation, testing, setting to work and commissioning.
The role will use the project query tool to answer technical queries from other departments.
The role will be required to lead technical support to supply chain and those charged with sub contract management. The role will liaise with the supplier technical authorities and oversee the review hard and soft supplier deliverables to ensure compliance with the specification, employing Company Quality teams as required.
