Our client is looking for a Senior Engineer to support the Lead PSA Engineer in the delegated nuclear technology subjects associated with the UK ABWR, from the GDA/ Site specific design phase through to plant construction and operations. The post holder main focus will be performing technical work associated with Operations and Technical Specifications development. The post holder will also manage framework contracts and support production of nuclear related studies involving Operational & Technical Specifications.
Support the Lead PSA Engineer, as a core member of the Design Authority Team, in the delivery of business plan related targets and undertake specific roles within the Business.
Act as Intelligent Customer for nuclear technology services for delegated subjects.
Deliver authoritative advice across the range of nuclear technology activities, including Operations and Technical Specifications, as appropriate.
Support the Lead PSA Engineer in the delivery of technical services, support requirements and authoritative advice associated with the nuclear technology discipline.
Support the Lead PSA Engineer in the recruitment, development and management of the nuclear technology team of staff and, where appropriate, contractors with the range of skills and experience needed to discharge the nuclear technology responsibilities associated with Operational & Technical Specifications.
Support the Lead PSA Engineer in the development of nuclear technology work programmes and business plans (including definition of deliverables, milestones, resource plans and budgets).
Assist in the development of local procedures and working arrangements for the nuclear technology discipline involving Operational & Technical Specifications.
Support Lead PSA Engineer Participate in/ Lead ONR technical discussions (Level 4 meetings), as requested.
Act as an Intelligent Customer for nuclear technology services provided by others.
Provide oversight and verification of work carried out by the staff within the nuclear technology team.
Review nuclear technology aspects of documents supplied by HGNE and other suppliers.
Work closely with and support the DA in his management of relationships with regulators on nuclear technology matters to support development of the plant and site specific safety case.
Work closely with and support the licensing and permitting process for the new build in Wales, working with suppliers and the regulators to ensure licensing and permitting requirements are met.
Work closely with and support the Site Development Directorate in relation to works at site.
Manage and motivate staff by regular personal contact, active development and regular performance management.
Support the Lead PSA Engineer with review activities for high significance design changes (i.e. Category 1 or 2 Design Changes) providing a recommendation to the Decision Panel as to whether to accept or reject the change.
Engage with members of the DA on low significance design changes (i.e. Category 3 or 4) reporting any categorisation or process-related discrepancies to the Decision Panel.
Support the Lead PSA Engineer the review of Major concessions providing a recommendation to the appropriate DA Head of Section as to whether to grant or reject the concession.
Candidates must hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a suitable engineering or science subject.
Chartered engineer status, membership of a relevant professional institution. Or equivalent.
Appropriate level of relevant professional experience.
Have extensive knowledge and understanding across a broad range of nuclear power plant nuclear engineering issues including experience in design, safety substantiation and implementation of nuclear and conventional systems.
Able to provide guidance and support to other members of the team.
Experience in complex engineering and design projects.
Project/engineering management skills and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
Good team working skills, able to work with a wide range of other engineering and business disciplines inside and outside of the business.
Proven ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Able to develop a cohesive team as well as building productive relationships across the business
