Morson are currently working in partnership with BAE systems on their surface ships programmes and require a Senior Engineer with Auxiliary Systems to join the team at Scotstoun on an initial 6 month contract. The programme has been deemed a government critical programme and continues to be worked on despite the current climate, social distancing is being practised in cases where on site work is unavoidable, however remote work is being carried out where possible.

Purpose of Role:

This Senior Engineer role is to work within the Project Auxiliary systems Stage 1 design team and assist in managing the system solutions and ensure that the Stage 1 design intent is protected through the Stage 2 (3D modelling) and Stage 3 (Drawing outputs generation and issue to Production) phases of the project.

Key Technical Skills:

The role holder will require a wide knowledge of Marine Engineering, and Naval Ship design experience in order to fulfil this role. Stage 1 design activities will require an ability to undertake detailed system calculations, develop 2D schematics and lead the technical aspects of supplier engagement by creation of Technical Equipment specifications and Statements of Work along with management of technical deliverables from equipment suppliers within area or responsibility.

Tasks and Activities:

At the Senior Engineer level, it is expected that these tasks will be carried out with a high degree of autonomy.

Produce system specification documents and develop / document solutions to meet the specification including undertaking system performance calculations.

Produce Technical Equipment Specifications for the equipment within area of responsibility, lead the technical assessment of candidate suppliers' tenders, and perform the technical project management function for the resultant equipment contract.

Protect the programme by promptly addressing Change and Engineering issues raised against systems in area of responsibility.

Ensure that Stage 1 design intent is maintained through the later phases of the project.

Key Outputs/Deliverables:

Technical Equipment Specifications for equipment options.

System performance calculations.

Design Documentation for systems in area of responsibility.

Embodiment of appropriate Change in the design.

3D Spatial Routed System Reviews of responsible systems.


  • BEng Mechanical/ Marine Engineering (preferred)
  • HND and relevant experience in lieu.
