Title: Senior Buyer

Job profile
Working with the site Purchasing Manager and procurement team, the senior buyer will lead and support a wide range of procurement activities.
Providing procurement support for the day to day operations of sourcing projects, external supplier relationships, leading department improvement initiatives, and delivering business objectives through effective procurement
Drive continuous improvement, development and implementation of new site services, supporting planning and purchasing strategies in the most effective way. Develop and maintain procurement best practice whilst working with appropriate teams across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage and maintain a wide network of suppliers to support site production and services
- Support, negotiate and implement contracts with suppliers
- Support and deliver competitive pricing for all purchases across the business
- Be a main point of contact to coordinate supplier related issues
- Lead supplier reviews and deliver the supplier management process, supporting continuous improvement work
- Drive the development and implementation of robust internal and external processes to optimise the procurement framework
- Support budgets, projects and departments across the business.
- Cover for the site Purchasing Manager as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Desirable, CIPS, MCIPS or Degree level qualification in wide area of supply chain
- Experience of similar manufacturing operations, ideally across direct and indirect spend categories
- Commercially astute with a strong understanding of the financial drivers of goods and services
- A working knowledge of procurement and supply chain systems and processes within a manufacturing environment
- Proven ability to coordinate across teams and improve partnerships with suppliers
- Senior procurement / supply chain experience
Essential Functional / Technical Skills
- Reasonable knowledge of current legislation and familiar with procurement contracts and development
- Experienced in supporting supplier management and supporting processes to drive change and improvement
- Proven negotiation skills and assertiveness to secure contracts that deliver value and service commitments
- Proven ability to support projects, successfully resolving issues and utilising internal network and relationships to reach solutions
- Ability to adapt and work within a commercial and supplier /service change environment
- Strong communication skills both oral and written across different levels
- Be numerate and able to manipulate financial data and spreadsheets, with good analytical skills
- Good understanding and working knowledge of SAP
- Ability to travel
