Secondary Facilities Engineer

OVERALL DEPARTMENT DIRECTION

This position will be within the Strategic Infrastructure business unit based in Devonport, Plymouth. There are currently three projects allocated in supporting the astute submarine class for future maintenance activities. Two projects are focused on direct support (Primary Facilities - Dock & Berth), whilst a supporting project (Secondary Facilities) ensures that suitable services, logistics, workshops etc. exist. The role will be part of the Secondary Facilities Engineering Team. The role will be full time (37 hours) based within Devonport Dockyard with an estimated 6 month duration.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

You will be responsible in supporting the technical documentation required for the start-up phase of Secondary Facilities. A key document on the project plan is the Concept of Operations (CONOPs) for the supporting functions that Secondary Facilities will deliver. You will be expected to have a good understanding of electrical and mechanical services and site infrastructure for a complex site. In the production of the CONOPs you will be expected to interpret the User Requirements, liaise with key stakeholders and project team(s) to plan what systems are required to support the high level requirement. Each identified system will be required to pass through analysis (Capability, Capacity, Compliance and Design Life) and supply recommendations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCES

* Past experience in working in a complex design environment, specifically in infrastructure with a multitude of interfaces and services.

* Experience with translating User Requirements into System Requirements.

* Experience and knowledge of mechanical and electrical services that support an industrial environment on a complex and ever changing site

* A proactive attitude, with good communication skills and can be relied upon in delivering documentation to a high standard.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educated to degree level in an appropriate STEM discipline or HNC in an appropriate engineering discipline. Professional Institute or working towards a professional qualification (CEng, IEng). Alternatively - Suitable experience may be considered in lieu of professional qualifications.
