We have an opportunity for a Safety Case Review Engineer based between Westlakes and Sellafield, Cumbria.

As facilities complete operations and prepare for or enter a period of Post Operational Clean Out (POCO) there is requirement to realign the Safety Case to support both POCO tasks and the proposed plant Post POCO state. Whilst much of the Safety Case will be revised, areas of the plant remaining unchanged after POCO will be subjected to some form of review to satisfy Site Licence Condition (SLC) 15.
The review will take account of the Surveillance and Maintenance activities and ensure the Safety Case is fit for the purpose to support these tasks.
This role is to support and carry out reviews of the applicable safety cases and develop safety case strategies where applicable.
Proactively lead engagement with Plant personnel and review documentation to:
Provide Safety Case experience and knowledge to the reviews undertaken as part of plants transition to and undertaking POCO.
Undertake a review of the current POCO target states
Review and define POCO Tasks and sequences
Prepare for and lead in scoping type reviews
Oversee the production of Safety Case Summary documentation e.g. Single Source Fault Schedule
Support Safety Case documentation through its approval processes.
Support a review of the current operational safety case and compare to POCO activities and requirements
Determine the impact of any required changes to the current Safety Case
Assist in the development of an Improvement Plan with applicable review actions
Assist in the development of any associated Overarching Strategy Paper
Assists in the production of the review report, the Safety Case Review Report
Support and Lead Safety Case support to project within the portfolio and produce safety assessments where applicable.
Personality: Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality and accuracy. A natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance. Mature, credible, and comfortable in dealing with range of people from Senior Managers to Plant Operators. Reliable, tolerant, and determined, an empathic communicator, able to see things from the other persons point of view. Able to get on with others and be a team-player. A questioning and investigative attitude is desirable.
Ability to work as an integral part of a team and from own initiative to achieve results. Possess the ability to justify/explain progress made, and actions implemented.
Specific Job Skills: Detailed understanding of the principles of Safety Cases, Nuclear and General Engineering. Previous experience of Sellafield and the Long-Term Periodic Review process will be useful.
Computer skills: Must be adept in use of MS Office, particularly Excel and Word. The ability to use and experience of the Sellafield IT systems will be an advantage.
Literacy: Must be a competent writer of technical based reports/presentations and safety assessments/reviews.
Communication Skills: Must be a good communicator using face-to-face discussion, telephone and email. The ability to listen is essential.
