We have an opportunity for a Safety Case Project Engineering Technical Manager based between Westlakes and Sellafield, Cumbria.
Please note this role is inside IR35
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
The PEM is accountable to the Project Manager (PM) for technical strategy development and technical delivery of the Safety Case reviews and pre POCO support.
The PEM role is to:
Form and lead the engineering team (including technical and safety case) to deliver fit for purpose solutions to safety case reviews taking into account SL Plant operational and post operational requirements, meeting SL company legal, regulatory and project requirements.
Develop the safety case review strategy and execution plan and ensure it remains live with managed and controlled changes.
Lead by example and be a positive role model to the team members with the ability to improve the team performance and competence by providing feedback, promoting best practice and learning from experience.
Ensure all the components of the safety case review work is clearly defined and delivered to the agreed strategy and plan in a timely and cost effective manner.
Agree the scopes of forward workload to ensure that the customer requirements are met.
Routinely interact with the customers and regulators on review progress and issues.
Develop underpinned and robust estimates to support the defined scopes of work.
Monitor the progress of the team's work and progression towards milestones and deliverable dates.
Lead and coach the team to maximise their efficiency and effectiveness to deliver in a timely manner fit for purpose work in a safe manner to meet or better the project deliverables.
Develop and execute effective strategies and plans in line with the overall project strategies and plans.
Control and manage the forward work load allocation tool in conjunction with the PM.
Feedback the Team's input to and utilization of LFE across all project stages.
Maintain the competence and/or SQEPness of their team members by identifying and facilitating delivery of appropriate training and role assignment through the appropriate client partner.
Identify and manage risks in conjunction with the PM and IC.
Deputise for the PM when required and ensure the delivery of the work is progressed during periods of PM absence
Personality: a proven leader and motivator of team personnel. Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality and accuracy. A natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance and the teams. Mature, credible, and comfortable in dealing with range of people from Senior Managers to Plant Operators. Reliable, tolerant, and determined, an empathic communicator, able to see things from the other persons point of view. Able to get on with others and be a team-player. A questioning and investigative attitude is desirable. A tenacious nature to get things done even in adverse conditions. Ability to lead a team in a calm considered manner through periods of high stress to ensure deliverables are achieved to the requirement of the project strategy.
Specific Job Skills: Understands the principles of Safety Cases, Nuclear and General Engineering. Proven leader with team management experience to deliver in challenging circumstances.
Computer skills: Must be adept in use of MS Office 2000 or later, particularly Excel and Word. The ability to use and experience of the Sellafield IT systems will be an advantage.
Literacy: Must be a competent writer of technical based reports and clear strategies.
Communication Skills: Must be a good communicator using face-to-face discussion, telephone and email. The ability to listen is essential.
Good understanding of the Safety Case Review processes, requirements and related information.
Previous LTPR experience
Previous engineering and/or technical management leading
MS Office suite of programmes including MS Project, SL network/IT access
BPSS or SC Security Clearance would be an advantage
