Job Purpose

The Safety Case Production Manager is to ensure the adequacy and consistency of all safety case work delivery by or accepted by the Safety Case Team. The Safety Case Production Manager is responsible for the control, execution, monitoring and reporting of all allocated safety case assessments in accordance with project requirements.

Key Accountability's

Support the Design Engineering Manager

  • Ensure that all work is executed in accordance with the Management System
  • Ensure that personnel are demonstrably SQEP for assigned tasks
  • Assure the technical adequacy of project work undertaken by the Safety Case Team
  • Ensure that there are adequate mechanisms to facilitate learning (internal and external)
  • Member of the Design Authority committee

Be part of the Intelligent Customer function for all project safety documentation produced internally and externally

  • Assist in the acceptance of externally generated deliverable as part of the IC function
  • Advise personnel and Safety Case Team members on all aspects of nuclear safety
  • Advise external organisations on interpretation of the SAH and SCM
  • Act as Contract Supervisor/ Nominated Representative for subcontractors
  • Management of regulatory expectations and support to meetings and inspections

Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of own Safety Case deliverable/tasks

  • Deliver technically complex and detailed safety assessments across all team projects
  • Ensure that all assigned tasks are included in an appropriate project programme
  • Ensure that delivery of assigned tasks in line with the project programme (time/ cost/ quality)
  • Identify potential difficulties or changes in scope
  • Assist in ensuring consistency of approach across the project

Maintain SQEP status for Lead Safety Case Advisor

  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of current legislation and Regulatory expectations
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of project life cycle and safety case assessment requirements
  • Maintain a detailed working knowledge of the SAH and SCM
  • Be responsible for the upkeep of the SAH

Vocational Qualifications

  • Degree in a science or engineering discipline, or equivalent.

Experience needed

  • Knowledge of current legislation and Regulatory expectations
  • Knowledge of project lifecycle and safety case assessment requirements
  • Production of safety cases for a variety of Nuclear Site License holders
  • Delivery of detailed nuclear safety case assessments
  • Knowledge of supporting disciplines (criticality, shielding, human factors)
  • Delivery of own tasks to time, cost and quality
  • Managing and reporting against budgets and timescales
  • Production and delivery of training courses

Specific know how and technical skills

  • Detailed knowledge of the Health & Safety Executive's permissioning regime
  • Knowledge of the principles of Nuclear Licensed Site regulation
  • Knowledge of Regulator expectations in respect of Safety Case submissions
  • Knowledge of a broad range of nuclear safety assessment techniques
  • Understanding of the enrichment process and ancillary operations
  • Investigative and negotiating skills - persuading and influencing others
  • Excellent written skills for preparing reports, instructions, meeting minutes
  • Ability to work on own initiative and programme own work and that of others
  • Ability to oversee development and delivery of an effective training package.
  • Good planning, coordinating and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills for dealing with stakeholders
  • Strong analytical thinking/ problem solving skills
