JOB TITLE Resident Engineer
OFFICE LOCATION Heritage Building, City of London
REPORTS TO Account Manager
DIRECT REPORTS 8 x building maintenance engineers (3 x electricians ,2 x mechanical engineers, 3 x fabric engineers)
WORKING HOURS 40 hours per week, flexible dependant on workload


The Resident Engineer (RE) is responsible for the overall delivery of technical service to the end clients House Trust (HT) estate and the maintenance of building fabric the extent of which is as dictated by the service schedule. Services are provided via the utilisation of my client's employees for initial reactive response to faults and for the planned preventative maintenance works. My client's team are supplemented by the utilisation of an extensive listing of specialist sub-contractors. The RE is responsible for the financial performance of the full scope of technical services against budget and the incurred costs by the procurement of consumables and contracted services.
The RE plays a key role in the provision of variable services to a number of stakeholders including the HT tenants. A significant amount of additional services will be provided in support of exhibitions and events throughout the year where effective communications with HT, stakeholders and their clients are paramount.

Person Specification

Skills and Experience:


* 10 years post qualification engineer experience within a multi-disciplined demanding environment
* Relevant professional qualification to the building maintenance and services industry
* Directly responsibility for the management and delivery of building maintenance services in a diverse and challenging environment
* Fully conversant with Electrical, Mechanical, inc Gas, Refrigeration and Pressurised systems
* Competent in dealing with building fabric works inc decorative finishes, ironmongery, fixture & fittings, rain water systems, drains, gullies & external aspects such as pavements, roofing & glazing etc
* Be very familiar with the operation of building management systems
* Managed auditing processes for a range of services and performed to service KPI's
* Good communication (both written and verbal) skills with ability to work under pressure whilst focused on best in class customer service
* Competent in the use of IT including all MS Office packages and CAFM Systems
* Demonstrate a proven track record in delivering excellence in the facilities services environment
* IOSH qualified
* Relevant personnel management skills and experience
* Financial management of staff, contractors and commodities
* Experience of dealing with and monitoring contractors
* Direct responsibility for operational H&S compliance
* Experience managing services via a CAFM system
* L8 Awareness
* Component in dealing with the Somerset House courtyard water feature and all aspects of its safe & reliable operation, including mechanical and water quality considerations
* A thorough understanding of all current regulations and statutory compliance


* NEBOSH qualified
* Delivered services within a historic or heritage environment
* Experience with the management or support to exhibitions and events
* Experience in wider facilities services
* Developed service proposals and bids
* PWTAG Pool Plant Operator trained
