Radiographer required for work at Devonport dockyard in Plymouth.
To carry out Radiographic examinations of components and structures utilising both x-ray and gamma radioisotopes on-board submarine and surface ship platforms, in addition to exposure room radiography on various components.
It is preferable if applicants have proven experience of conducting radiographic examinations aboard submarine or warship platforms, as well as exposure room radiography. Knowledge of submarine/ship layout and familiarisation of some pipe work systems would be an advantage.
Applicants must be reliable, capable of working in a team environment and have a flexible approach to working patterns to reflect the business needs of the company.
Knowledge of Ship/Submarine layout and pipework systems, or refit experience in an engineering discipline, or previous experience in NDT, preferably in an engineering field.
PCN Level II qualification in Radiographic Testing of Welds (PCN qualifications in the aerospace sector are not deemed suitable due to the nature of the work carried out at Devonport).
PCN qualifications in MPI/LPI are desirable as is qualification as a trained RPS.
Current or previous MoD security clearance would be an advantage.
There will be a requirement to work a permanent 40 hour nightshift week comprising of 5 days on and two days off. All work will be undertaken between the contractual hours of 23:00 and 07:00 under the supervision of the Engineer Team Leader.
Applicants must be prepared to work as classified radiation workers and may be asked to work in locations under Health Physics control. The work can be demanding with many radiographic examinations being undertaken in confined space areas where access may at times be restricted.
