Our Client has an immediate requirement for an experienced Project Planner to lead the creation and maintenance of project plans for new programmes and/or restructuring existing project plans following major change, including base lining / re-base lining.

Be responsible for the governance, guidance and tuition of other members of the project planning team, in all topics associated with project planning, including toolset functionality and capability.

Operating in this capacity will require the individual to act as adviser to, and deputy for the Project Planning Manager

Core Duties

Construct high-level plans to satisfy the programme declared cardinal dates

Breakdown / partition the high levels plans, as definition is made available, maintaining the declared key dates, to produce integrated lower level plans, as definition is made available, maintaining the declared key dates, to produce integrated lower - level plans consistent with the lifecycle stage of the programme.

Advise on the structuring of and implement, a workable Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Oragnisational Breakdown Structure (OBS) within the programme plans in line with company procedures

Assign budget allocation to high or low level plans, as directed via WBS, Control Accounts and Work Packages

In consultation with the Project Risk Team, produce sub-set of the lower level plan (s) to support running of the various SRA (Schedule Risk Analysis) models

Ensure rapid response to problems/issues so that disruption to planned activities is minimised

Verify that functional outputs comply with business quality standards

Monitor the lower-level plans within own programme, to ensure that a common approach to structure is being adopted, based on Naval Ships processes, and challenge non-compliances

Chair meetings, or otherwise take the lead, in all matters relating to the schedule implications of the plan(s)

Functional Knowledge:

Planning within High Value Complex projects

Comprehensive understanding of Planning Tools, MRP (Material Requirements Planning) key operating principles and other Integrated Business Systems (IBS)

Understanding of Planning structures and principles (WBS, PBS (Product Breakdown Structure) etc.)

The job holder demonstrates advanced IT skills and is proficient in the use of appropriate packages. (Primavera, MS Office, etc)

5 years Planning experience desired or demonstrated skills

Business Expertise:

Understanding of Ship build manufacture processes across the build cycle and delivery requirements of Engineering & Supply Chain to support

Understanding of cross-functional process interfaces and impact on functional delivery & quality

Understanding and compliance with Company HR,SHE, & Quality policies and processes


Ability to plan, prioritise and delegate work in a changing environment

Ability to influence stakeholders through effective communication, clear presentation of data

Display behaviours in keeping with performance centred leadership

Have a personal understanding of Schedule progress for their area of responsibility, through regular engagement and a visible presence "on the Floor" as the ship moves through all build phases

Problem Solving:

Competent in problem solving techniques/tools

Able to undertake complex analyses of data to identify root cause

Able to develop solutions to complex issues

Recognises opportunities for continuous improvement within functional processes
