Purpose of service (i.e. project details)

To project manage specific UKPN Services projects within the Central Delivery team, ensuring successful pre and post contract management of the project on time, budget and safely to Client’s expectations. Complete project management efficiently through the full life cycle of the project from award through to handover in line with the UK Power Networks Services governance and control process.

Deliverables to be achieved during duration of contract:

Manage the project interface between Client teams and UKPN Services teams, our sub-contractors and suppliers in order to ensure the programme and its key milestones are achieved.

Production of weekly/monthly reports, as required for review/meetings. Ensuring monthly applications are progressed and labour utilised efficiently, safely and works carried out to a high standard.

Milestones to be accomplished

Milestones to be in line with the key delivery dates detailed in Central Project Delivery project programme. Key delivery dates which measure performance, cost and efficiencies against a critical path dateline.

Expected duration:

Estimated 40 hours per week due to budgetary requirements.

Nature and Scope: To project manage specific UKPN Services projects within the Central Delivery team, UK wide, ensuring successful pre and post contract management of all projects on to high standards, on time, on budget and safely in order to exceed the customer expectations. To complete project management efficiently through the full life cycle of the project from initial award through to post investment appraisal in line with the UK Power Networks Services governance and control process.

Key Competencies:

  • Project programme management to a high level of safety and quality
  • Work as part of a team in a dedicated team of project and support staff demonstrating strong interpersonal skills
  • To manage client project requirements and exceed in client delivery expectations
  • Liaison with all disciplines within the UKPN Services Central Delivery team to ensure a consistent and appropriate strategy to deliver a successful project and exceed client expectation
  • Manage the financial control of projects, ensuring the timely delivery of planned works and profit margins
  • Ensure design and construction compliance in accordance with CDM regulation
  • Collaborative approach with all stakeholders, Client and delivery teams to achieve
  • An understanding of HV and LV networks would be advantageous; a can do and customer friendly attitude is important
  • Professional reporting and presentation to UK Power Networks senior management 

Principal Accountabilities:

Must be committed to the General Safety Policy statement, Zero Harm and any related safety programmes, must be aware of his/her contribution, including the requirement to monitor safety performance and compliance with the systems established to assist in maintaining high safety standards in project delivery

Accurate forecasting and reporting meeting all key programme milestones

Manage projects throughout their lifecycle from enquiry, through award, on to completion and handover in line with project processes on time and to budget

Effectively manage workload. Take full responsibility and ownership of the success and quality of projects

Contract management in line with NEC 3, JCT or equivalent

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

A HNC in Electrical Engineering (or similar) is the preferred requirement however, applications from candidates with a lesser qualification and a strong record of accomplishment in either project management or electrical distribution infrastructures (design or construction) would be welcomed.

An understanding and use of Microsoft Office packages Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.

Experience of the Project Governance and Control process and a strong commercial awareness would be advantageous and team/people management skills and experience.

Experience of Primavera planning package would be preferable.

Able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks at the same time and a willingness to challenge and innovate rather than accepting the status quo
