Job location: Manchester

Cargill's Manchester plant is a production facility at the hub of the UK food, spirit, pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics industries. The plant and offices located in Manchester are part of the Cargill starches and sweeteners business which produces sweeteners, wheat protein and alcohol for customers in the confectionery, brewing, drink, dairy, farming and bakery sectors.

This position is responsible for ensuring the process meets customer requirements in a safe and timely manner. On a day to day basis the successful candidate will be in charge of the Ethanol production process, maintenance and improvement of the quality/safety and environmental performance of the Ethanol area and reporting back directly to the production manager

Main Tasks:

  • Maintain Cargill standards for safety and environmental issues, demonstrating continuous improvement in employee safety
  • Ensure the Ethanol production process is controlled and maintained to remain within environmental permits
  • Drive improvements in food safety standards in the Ethanol production process
  • Daily monitoring and review of process performance
  • Ensure production targets are met including yield and efficiency targets
  • Responsible for cost control in the department, budgetary management and staffing plans
  • Continuously improvement the reliability of the process to increase plant capacity, yield and quality by working closely with the maintenance team
  • Help to maintain an effective preventative maintenance program and develop an effective operator care system
  • Improve the skillset of the team and continually develop the team by conducting performance reviews and identifying training and development needs
  • Support and promote the use of continuous improvement and reliability excellence tools including but not limited to Kaizen, 5Whys, 5S, Operator Care, Preventative Maintenance

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Mechanical/ Chemical Engineering or equivalent relevant academic qualification
  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate

  • Proven production management experience from a similar process industry e.g. chemicals, petrochemicals, heavy pharmaceuticals or food/ingredients
  • Experience with large scale industrial distillation and evaporation processes would be advantageous
  • Sounds financial management skills for budgeting
  • Excellent leadership skills; Communicate clear objectives, provide feedback, suggest improvement for individual performance
  • Excellent change management skills; Adapts to changing business needs, introduces new ways of thinking and behaving, and applies new ideas
  • Comfortable to manage ambiguity
  • Customer focused and achievement driven
  • Practical approach to problem solving & timely solution execution
  • Manage conflicting priorities within tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and present to different levels of the business
  • Excellent organization skills to set priorities
  • Fully IT literate
  • HAZOP Leader training and ATEX/DSEAR training would be preferred
