Thorp Evaporative Capacity
A design team has been set up to modify an existing evaporator cell (currently two phase to be turned into a single phase evaporator cell) to take over from MASFE 2 at the end of its operational life.
The overall programme of work is multidiscipline and heavily time constrained. The mechanical scope includes: sub change rooms shielding In cell cooling steam float trap replacement in cell piping and ductwork mods (in a high radiation and heat environment) tube and vessel repairs active tie ins and isolations.
Job Description / Role
A Principal Mechanical Engineer experienced of working within a mechanical design team core tasks including:
*Assisting and supporting planning and estimating review of the project mechanical design scope when required
*Supporting planning and estimating of the mechanical design scope where required
*Contribute to weekly reporting (timesheets, hours per activity, progress per activity)
*Support monthly reporting of progress in accordance with the agreed project rules of credit.
*Interfacing with other discipline leads (process, CE&I, CS&A) and Thorp Plant personnel
*Produce and check design deliverables including:
CDM risk assessments
Preliminary installation method statements
Technical Note for Records
Contribution to SDDR, MDDR and HAZOP reviews
Essential Experience/Personal Characteristics
*Self-starting and driven taking ownership of the mechanical piping and vessel work scope and capable of driving progress of the mechanical team (and supporting personnel) against the program
*Comfortable working under time and cost constraints
*Experienced managing design teams
*Experienced at understanding project scope and therefore of identifying and reporting potential and actual scope change.
*Experience of design delivery in a highly regulated industry
*Experience of design delivery using SL Management System.
*Familiarity with Cimage, registration of drawings and SL procedures and processes (SLMS) an advantage
*Fully conversant SL piping design processes
*Must be fully conversant with ASME/ANSI B31.3 Piping Design Code
*Extensive experienced working with PD 5500 Pressure Vessel Design Code.
*Experience in selecting pipe support types and pipe support design
*Experience working with a PDMS modelling teams conversant with Navisworks
*Experienced in and have a good working knowledge of valve selection and specification.
*Experience of the CDM regulations and able to provide support to the PEM in the discharge of his responsibilities.
*A sound knowledge of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000.
*Design fundamentals PUWER, CDM, IRR, LOLER etc
