Purpose of role:

Provide specialist engineering expertise in the design, measurement and integration for the URN design and delivery.

Technical Skills:

Possesses knowledge of Noise & Vibration (N&V) sources and transmission mechanisms typically found within naval ships and/or submarines.

Possesses knowledge and expertise in the control and management of N&V within naval ships and/or submarines.

Possesses practical N&V measurement skills with industry standard techniques and tools.

Possesses mathematical skills necessary for the analysis of N&V measurements and the ability to present results clearly.

Industry Knowledge:

5 Years' engineering experience in a defence or related industry

Qualifications:

Typically degree qualified, in a technology, engineering or science related discipline.

Meet the requirements for registration as Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council and preferably be a member of a relevant Professional Body.

Tasks and Activities:

Assessment of the ship's system design and integration from an N&V control perspective; developing engineering solutions in a ship build environment.

Using both N&V analysis and background knowledge to ensure the embodiment of appropriate solutions into the ship's acoustic design.

Working with the Operations team to support the transfer of key acoustic design principles into the ship build.

Supporting the development and execution of the N&V measurement programme in ship build and integration programme.

Supporting and attending N&V assurance and acceptance measurement events being undertaken at supplier's facilities.

Full engagement with the project reviews; including System Reviews, Compartment Reviews, Zone Review and Assurance Reviews.

Accountabilities:

Deliver to time, budget and agreed technical quality sub-contract or internal assessment tasks.

Maintaining technical & develop skill, developing capabilities within the business and provide technical support and expertise to others, as required.

Define scopes of work, specifying task outputs and acceptance criteria, budgets and time-scales. Able to undertake tasks both independently and using team members' expertise to best effect.

Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.

Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development.

Outputs/Deliverables:

Technical design & integration assessment of shipboard systems & provision of URN control advice.

Technical design assessment of ship systems and provision of N&V control advice.

Reporting on N&V measurement of ship's equipment and integration.

Carry out technical investigations in order to develop options and solutions/ recommendations to project stakeholders.

Risk management to ensure quality in line with all requirements and processes.

Report against the team's work programmes to ensure delivery against accountabilities.

Accountability for the outputs of peers/subordinates and checking of their work.

Functional Skills:

Appreciates and can articulate the need for product safety and system safety assessments form part of the design process.

Exposure to regulatory and statutory requirements of the product and understands potential liabilities.

Appreciates the requirement for environmental impact assessment for long term sustainability.

Appreciates the need for a supportability engineering process to sustain the long term viability of the business.
