Morson are currently working in partnership with a top defence company and have 2 x requirements for Principal Engineers - Structures to join their team at their premises in Barrow-In-Furness. Full details below.
The role is primarily for the design substantiation of Jig structures, lifting equipment and arrangements and structures supporting production related equipment.
It involves the structural assessment and modification of the designs of structures to a specific acceptance criteria.
It involves interactions with designers to gather information and working with designers to modify designs where necessary.
The role also includes the checking of calculations equivalent to those being created by the engineer in the role, and may involve other calculation and checking work supporting the general work performed by the production engineering department.
Responsibilities As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for the calculation, analyses and verification of a number of activities such as, the transport, handling and shipping of large elements of the product including assessment of large modules required in the build of a complex submarine. You will also be involved in the design of jigs from initial design through to operation ensuring equipment is fit for purpose delivering engineering solutions in accordance with a strict framework of safety.
Degree level qualification in mechanical, structural, marine or aeronautical engineering (or equivalent level of experience performing calculations)
Qualifications covering the use of Mathcad, Abaqus CAE, S Frame Chartership with a relevant institution (IMECHE) Experience -
Experience of working with designers to modify and improve designs
Experience performing calculations using hand calculations and text book references
Experience performing calculations using spreadsheets or Mathcad software
Experience with the design and qualification of lifting equipment
Experience with code based design (e.g. BS EN 1990:2002 + A1:2005, BS EN 1991-1-1:2002, BS EN 1993:2005 and BS EN 15048-1:2007)
Experience of assessing structures or components using Finite Element Analysis software Beneficial
Experience using Abaqus CAE software
Experience using S Frame software
