Morson International are seeking an experienced Engineer in Shock & Dynamics to join a leading defence company on an initial 12-month contract at their base in Barrow. Working on their submarine programmes, this role would be ideally suited to someone with prior experience on Nuclear Power or Naval Defence projects.
This role will be working alongside experienced Engineers within the Shock and Dynamics team to help develop the analytical capability of the department. This role includes the creation, review and authorisation of calculations for structures and mounting arrangements.
The role would best suit an Experienced Chartered Engineer who enjoys detailed development of structural and mounting arrangement designs to meet challenging requirements (including naval shock, stiffness and operational loads). The role requires development of solutions that can be integrated into Submarine (or Naval platform) designs; accommodating a diverse range of cross-functional requirements and needing collaborative working methods to get to the best solution.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.
Experience with finite element analysis software
Experience with structural hand calculations
Adaptable and willing to learn
Good level of communication skills
Ability to work alone or as part of a team
Capable of prioritising work load
Abaqus CAE or Patran FEA software experience
Experience with weld detailing and analysis
Experience with structural design codes (i.e. ASME boiler pressure vessel codes)
ADDITIONAL SECURITY INFORMATION: We seek a Principal Shock Engineer who has ideally worked in a Defence or Nuclear environment in the UK within the last 12 months, or who is capable of obtaining UK MOD Security Clearance to SC Level.
