Job Description

The role of the Principal Electrical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the identification and resolution of issues originating from the EITF(Electrical Test Integration Facility). The role will also be involved in undertaking electrical power system studies and developing further design improvements for the EITF and GCS.

Working across the disciplines of electrical distribution, power & propulsion, and systems integration, the role holder will be responsible for providing electrical engineering input to electrical test reports focused on electrical quality of power supply and equipment behavior.

The successful Candidate will develop a detailed functional understanding of the equipment within the ship power and propulsion system, and will leverage this as part of developing analysis reports. The role also involves investigating functional integration issues and challenging aspects of the existing system design.

Core Duties

Identifying system or equipment issues based on EITF testing

Technical discussions of power system analysis results with EITF analysis team

Developing recommendations for solutions for both EITF and T26 GCS Issues, working in tandem with the T26 Marine Systems Integration Team

Management of issues raised at EITF, ensuring a consistent quality and clarity in problem reports and responses

Developing the detail of tests and new investigative trials

Management of test form delivery by the project's key supplier

Contributing to or leading on system and equipment improvement studies

Resolving maintenance issues with the EITF OEM Liaison

Ensuring configuration control of software and hardware at EITF is maintained

Functional Knowledge

Possesses in-depth knowledge of marine electrical power systems.

Expertise and experience of electrical power systems analysis.

Experience and knowledge of Marine Systems

Able to gather, filter and process information that will be used to perform testing; discussing with and eliciting information from SMEs/Stakeholders/Suppliers.

Business Expertise

Experience in electrical engineering or a defence related industry.

Understanding of the verification and validation phases of the lifecycle.

Problem Solving

Ensure effective application of process in assigned areas, including developing the design, modifications and improvements to processes in accordance with relevant standards, best practice and developing needs.

Develops solutions to requirements.

Able to exploit existing tools and processes using a pragmatic approach.

Anticipates and manages complex business improvements

Responsible for ensuring the output of EITF is of a high quality, therefore improving the overall quality of the P&P product

Required to deliver essential elements of the workscope of the EITF test programme, and all associated activities, can be completed to business milestones
