We are currently working with a well-established civil engineering and ground works company who require the services of a Plant and Transport Manager.

As a Plant Manager you will manage the day to day running of the company's fleet of vehicles and plant machinery. This is a key role within the business as such you will be expected to have a robust understanding of compliance relating to vehicles, HGVs, and plant.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day running of the company's fleet
  • Manage insurances
  • Ensure all drivers complete daily walk round checks, defect checks, plant inspections and record accurately
  • Report and arrange maintenance on any damage ensure full accident investigation is carried out on how the damage occurred
  • Arrange all maintenance 6 weekly, mots, loler inspections as required by maintenance schedules
  • Always keep planner/maintenance schedule up to date
  • Carry out driving licence CHECKS via DVLA and plant competency checks via CPCS and NPORS
  • Hiring and off hiring vehicles, plant and shoring equipment monitoring usage and off hire dates and negligence
  • Monitor hired in plant and shoring equipment
  • Gain and maintain FORS accreditation, ensure the company complies with DVSA and operator's licence requirements
  • Manage safe loading and unloading and ensure all drivers are regularly briefed and trained
  • Ensure drivers compliance with tachographs and driver's hours, regularly educate and train the drivers on compliance
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed
  • Strategic planning on drivers' routes for cost saving
  • Manage fuel cards, subscriptions, company branding, PPE, lifting tools etc… cost effectively
  • Management reporting to directors

Candidate specification

  • Transport manager CPC qualification
  • Class C License - lorry loader and grab
  • Commercially aware
  • Well organised
  • Self-motivated
  • At least 8 years' experience managing plant and transport
  • Must understand plant and machinery, knowledge of different brands, weights and fuel consumptions
