Morson International are currently recruiting for an Obsolescence Engineer to join a large engineering business based in Dorset. In this role you will be working as part of a close-knit team of Engineers providing support and management to component issues associated with manufacturing and test requirements. • Perform component and obsolescence engineering; including substitution and justification of alternative parts to meet project/customer reliability, safety and legislative requirements.
  • Perform reviews of and action product change notices (PCNs) provided by component suppliers or as a result of obsolescence monitoring performed by third party suppliers;
  • Perform analysis of existing equipment to establish requirements for component replacement or refurbishment;
  • Provide support to the manufacturing and test departments to assist in the resolution of build and test problems;
  • Produce technical reports, clearly identifying the preferred course of action and why after analysis of problems;
  • Liaise with suppliers regarding supply and support of third-party equipment;
  • Support supplier audits in relation to component storage, traceability, testing facilities and counterfeit avoidance;

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive knowledge and experience of working with electronic components; being able to provide support and advice on obsolete components, having confidence to provide recommendations in selection and redevelopment. Ideally you will have worked with ERP/MR systems before holding a good understanding of how to work with this type of system and the importance of the information held within it.
