Network and Telecommunications Architect - London (12 month contract) £340 - £390 a day

Morson International are working with a leading transportation firm who are looking for a Senior Network and Telecommunications Architect to join their team in London. This is an initial 12 month contract with the chance for extensions. You will be involved in the development of technical network and telecommunications solutions and associated infrastructure roadmaps. You will be responsible to translate business requirements into a set of functional and non-functional requirements. You will be taking part in the development of technical solutions with estimated value up to £5,000,000 p.a.

The Network and Telecommunications Architect will:

* Produce clear, accurate and agreed functional and non-functional requirements based on complex service requests
* Determine the feasibility of satisfying agreed functional and non-functional requirements through the use of standard and pre-defined technical services catalogue items, and in accordance with approved standards and roadmaps
* Define technical solutions or commission supplier proposals to satisfy functional and non-functional requirements
* Undertake risk-based assurance reviews (for example, using the V-Model approach) of supplier proposals to validate
- Suitability of the supplier proposal to meet the functional and non-functional requirements (including operability)
- Alignment of the supplier proposal with the technical strategy and roadmap, and relevant standards / design patterns
- Undertake type approvals and
- The completeness and accuracy of relevant documentation, including change control documentation
* Assure factory and site acceptance testing and service commissioning
* Enable the effective ongoing management of new and amended services through the timely and comprehensive transfer of solution knowledge to the Network Infrastructure Engineers within Technology Services Operations
* Provide support to Technology Services Operations (in particular the Network Infrastructure Engineers) and maintain a watching brief over the service requests satisfied directly by Technology Services Operations
* Assure proposed changes to the technical strategy and roadmap, standards and design patterns
* Ensure an appropriate and relevant level of alignment between industry best practice and the technical strategy and roadmap, standards and design patterns
* Undertake research and investigation into leading edge and emergent network and telecommunications systems
* Act as a technical subject matter expert and enable this to be an intelligent customer to its suppliers and partners
* Support relevant Senior Product Managers in the development and definition of future strategies and roadmaps
* Coach and advise the wider T&D organisation in technical network and telecommunication matters

The Network Architect will have:

* Expert knowledge of at least one of the following: 1) Data Centre Network and Cloud IaaS services and network trends like SDN and NFV, 2) LAN and WAN technologies within large enterprises, including service provider technologies and architectures, and/or 3) Radio, wireless Wi-Fi and cellular 4G/5G technologies and architecture, including RAN design, DAS, PMR, LTE and associated performance metrics
* Detailed knowledge of relevant technology marketplace and manufacturers / vendors of products and services
* Detailed knowledge and experience of IT architectural processes, frameworks and techniques
* Detailed knowledge of appropriate frameworks for undertaking verification and validation throughout the project lifecycle.
* Broad knowledge and understanding of planning and project management tools and techniques
* Knowledge of wider enterprise IT systems such as compute, storage, virtualisation, cloud computing, application design and security, and supporting services and technologies such as DNS and NTP
* Professional/Expert level technical certifications in an appropriate technical domain, or equivalent experience
* A university degree in a numerate subject or equivalent qualification such as TOGAF
* Ability to assess, review and refine architecture proposals and designs, and liaise with third party architects to modify designs as decisions are identified and choices made
* An ability to build effective relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues in a variety of teams
* At least 5 years' experience working in a relevant architecture / design role within a complex large enterprise or service provider environment. Such experience to have required/involved: a) a detailed appreciation of enterprise architectural standards and template and pattern-based design development, b) the provision of technical subject matter expertise to other functions/roles, and c) the writing and developing of high-level and low-level designs and technical proposals from conception to implementation, including reviewing test plans leading to successful technical deliveries of multiple greenfield/brownfield projects
