Morson are looking for a Permanent Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) & Tyre/ Flotation Bay Technician to work at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset.


The Wildcat NDT & Tyre/ Flotation Bay Technician is responsible to the WIST Support Services Manager to provide all aspects of NDT support to the Wildcat Fleet and to the Apache Fleet at Apache Contractor Maintenance (ACM) organisation at Middle Wallop. Additionally, carry out the role of Technician in the Wildcat Base Maintenance Tyre/ Flotation.


To hold authorisations to the minimum level required by WMS, this is to include second signature within own trade group as detailed in OP 1103 and IAW individual Record of Engineering Authorisations (REA).

Maintain technical currency and authorisation through the training program and reading disseminated information.

Provide efficient and timely NDT Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice and high quality, effective NDT techniques for inclusion in the Wildcat Aircraft Document Set.

Liaison with NDT agencies, Wildcat Delivery Team (WDT) and industry for Wildcat aircraft IAW MAP-01 Chapter 11.5 and JAP(D) 100A-4179.

Liaison with NDT agencies, Apache Delivery Team (ADT) and industry for Apache aircraft IAW MAP-01 Chapter 11.5 and JAP(D) 100A-4179.

Provide Level 2 NDT support and advice to WIST, Wildcat Squadrons, WDT, 1710NAS and the Engineering Management on WMS.

Provide Level 2 NDT support and advice to, ACM, ADT, 1710NAS and the Engineering Management on Apache IOS.

Supervise and development of Level 1 NDT Operators.

Carry out annual rectification of assigned NDT Level 1 personnel.

Conduct all NDT techniques designated for Level 1 NDT Operators at Wildcat Contractor Maintenance (WCM), Wildcat Base Maintenance (WBM), Wildcat Sustainment, Wildcat Bays Maintenance and ACM.

Conduct/supervise on-aircraft NDT techniques for example

  • Ultrasonic technique 1, 2 & 3A
  • PFD Technique 400 to 407
  • Eddy Current technique 1,2,400,401 &402

Conduct/supervise off-aircraft NDT techniques

Work under the airworthiness directives issued by the WDT and the respective FLC Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO), providing support to their respective Continuing Airworthiness Management Exposition (CAME).

Ensure positive promotion of Flight Safety and Human Factors awareness.

Ensure compliance with the Equal Opportunity and Diversity legislation and HSE procedures.

Conduct all activities IAW BS EN4179 and follow regulatory guidance within MAP-01 Chapter 11.5 within the

Assist Client NDT Level 3 with development and technical authorship of effective NDT techniques

To carry out tasks in a technician role within the Wildcat Base Maintenance Tyre and Flotation Bay or in other bays as directed.

Carry out maintenance within trade in accordance with published procedures and instructions.

Completing GOLDesp procedures IAW Wildcat Maintenance Support (WMS OP 408) and JAP(D) 100A-0409-01 series of publications.

Ensure correct tool control procedures (WMS OP 502) are adhered to when carrying out maintenance during the course of the working day.

To use specialist craft skills to carry out the repair, modification and fault diagnosis of all components, working to drawings if a relevant CMM does not exist.

To have a working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act, including COSHH.

Any other Aircraft support related tasks as directed by the appropriate Manager.


Must hold EN4179 NDT Examination Level 2 Certification in: Penetrant Flaw Detection/Inspection (PFD), Eddy Current Inspection (ECI), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Ultrasonic Inspection (UI).

3 years' experience with NDT techniques in a military, defence or aerospace environment.

Qualified to the European aerospace industry NDT Standard: BS EN4179

Qualified to at least ONC in aeronautical engineering, having served an aviation engineering apprenticeship and have worked in military aviation engineering with 3rd signature authorisation for at least two years.

A full understanding of all aspects of Military aircraft engineering and documentation

A full understanding of Military aircraft operation in base and field locations

Preferably current and competent in the use of GOLDesp
