Mission Planning Systems Engineer

Location:             Warton

Duration:             12 months

Rate:                   £65.98 per hour Umbrella or £57.27 per hour PAYE (inclusive of holiday allowance)

As a Mission Planning Systems Engineer supporting the Development Engineering Team, working closely alongside subject matter experts, software engineers and Aircrew operators, you will lead activities across the engineering lifecycle supporting the development and evolution of Sceptre Mission Planning System capability.  This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved significant capability growth area.  This will give you the chance to work at the forefront of modern technology and have a significant impact on the development of Typhoon.


  • Develop candidate requirements and generate system specifications against system capability route map objectives
  • Proactively engage with subject matter experts, and Aircrew operators, to review software specifications and design concepts
  • Perform product testing and identify resolution plans for identified technical issues
  • Support engineering activities leading to the qualification and certification of mission planning capability
  • Lead technical reviews with internal and external suppliers; including Typhoon Flight Operations Lead presentations and product demonstrations
  • Provide input and support to project Engineering Lifecycle Management design review process

Proven Ability / Key Skills

  • Hold a degree or equivalent engineering qualification alongside an engineering background
  • Proven ability of taking design requirements and deriving requirements into tangible engineering solutions
  • Proven ability of working with operators, subject matter experts and engineers to resolve engineering problems
  • Be able to effectively communicate at all levels of the organisation, suppliers and with the customer. This will be demonstrated by your ability to be a good team worker, logical thinker and able to remain effective under pressure with an inquisitive, pro-active and enthusiastic mind-set
  • Eurofighter Typhoon ground system and associated mission data knowledge would be highly desirable


  • Due to the sensitive nature of the product all applicants must have worked within the Defence / Military industry within the last 12 months or be capable of obtaining Security Clearance (SC level minimum).
  • There will be a requirement to attend site 60% (3 days per week) of the time.
