Mission Planning Systems Engineer

Location: Crawley

Duration: 6 months

Rate: £46.75 per hour LTD

Our client seeks a Mission Planning Systems Engineer to manage an internal engineering subcontract from a technical perspective. This will involve reviewing technical material provided by the supplier, providing innovative ways of dealing with deviations from schedule, and the acceptance of the mission planning system from the supplier.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

The list below is not exhaustive nor will individuals be expected to be able to undertake all of them. They are given as a guide as to the expected duties:

  • Provide information to the subcontractor to enable them to prepare system & subsystem requirement specifications, interface requirements and test requirement documents
  • Participate in technical/engineering meetings to discuss design options and cost-trade-off studies
  • Technically manage the supplier to ensure they are adhering to their SOW and the solution is meeting their Technical Requirements
  • Be the independent Chair of subcontractor Design Reviews, with particular attention to the reduction of design risks
  • Accurately report work progress and estimates to complete for the subcontract and associated technical work packages
  • Lead problem investigates in the field or with the systems documentation
  • Contribute to system test plans and test documents and the capture of evidence in the System RVVM

Proven Ability / Key Skills

  • Proven ability of developing a mission planning system or an ex-military engineer who has conducted airborne mission planning
  • The successful candidate will be the technical focal point for the System Engineering process and must resolve all issues, problems, questions and conflicts in the entire system. This requires frequent handling of new and unusual issues, therefore a proven record of working in a Systems engineering environment is required
  • Able to use a range of IT tools
  • Has a sound ability to use System Engineering tools
  • Can manage configuration control
  • Can manage a project through a defined process, including CHORUS2
  • Can produce metrics as part of Quality control
  • A working knowledge of project plans
  • Has a working knowledge of Engineering Safety Management


Due to the sensitive nature of the product all applicants must have worked within the Defence / Military industry within the last 12 months or be capable of obtaining Security Clearance (SC level minimum).
