An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Metallurgist to join our Aerospace Client in Bristol.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide metallurgist services and leadership of metallic testing for Manufacturing. You will lead a team of practitioners undertaking various activities connected with testing to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency of the undertaking.

You will be accountable for creating and maintaining a creditable strategy for metallic testing for operations. Additionally you will be tasked with establishing and approving policy, methods and procedures to fulfil customer requirements in relation to testing of:

  • Heat treatment properties
  • Welding and other metallic joining processes
  • Material surface and surface treatments
  • Operators, equipment & processes

Key Responsibilities:

Advise Operation Businesses on metallurgy matters.

Enable test resource to ensure requirements are fulfilled.

Ensure compliance with legal and technical requirements, including Health & Safety

Perform tests and examinations as appropriate

Optimise test processes, reduce costs and improve turn-round times.

Provide timely completion of administrative data.

The accountabilities relate to both in-house and sub-tier operations.

Qualifications and Skills - Formal Qualifications

Essential

Must be qualified in Metallurgy to BSc, BEng or MEng level with at least 5 years recorded experience in production test environment.

Experience of weld and metallic joining processes, including Electron Beam Welding.

Experience of gaining regulatory approval for testing processes.

Proven leadership experience.

Competent in operation of test and office IT systems

Desirable

Knowledge of production engineering and manufacturing methods.

NEBOSH and, or IOSH Health and Safety Management Qualification.

IT literate.

Specific Functional Capability, Knowledge and Skills Required

Essential

Expert knowledge of materials, their properties, their conditions or treatment and the overall effect on their use.

Thorough knowledge of Testing and Test Methods.

Expert in Regulatory Approval & compliance, e.g. Nadcap, UKAS

Desirable

Knowledge of production engineering and manufacturing methods.
