To lead the Mechanical Engineering team and deliver engineering ouputs.
To support the Chief Engineer in discharging Engineering Authority issues.
Role Holder will be required to provide engineering and management expertise to the delivery of projects/programmes that are likely to have a value in excess of several millions of pounds and have a significant headcount.
Responsibility to manage the engineering resource for such projects including the delivery of engineering work and services typically using an Integrated Project Team comprising of members of many disciplines and multiple interfaces with customers and suppliers.
To be responsible for the development of engineering design and production output data for the project including overall management responsibility for Stage 1 engineering Teams within cost, schedule and quality targets.
Work as required by Chief Engineer within the function of Ships.
Work with Chief Engineer to deliver all aspects of engineering deliverables including: Stage 1 Design, Change, PQ closure, NC closure, etc.
Delivery of mechanical engineering effort to budget and schedule
To manage the development of physical integration strategies, that will support the development of an optimised design solution, taking into account the many conflicting design constraints.
Familiarisation with the use of IT information systems to facilitate configuration control of the Bill of Materials and management of parts and their associated information attributes that will support design integration.
Provide discipline interface to other disciplines / areas of the business.
Deliver support to staff training and development.
Responsibility for technical output of the Mechanical Engineering Teams.
Responsibility for providing leadership and direction in solving technical issues.
Responsibility for the management of sub-contracted engineering work (where/if applicable).
Responsibility for ensuring continued professional development of the engineering staff deployed on the project.
Cost account budget responsibilities including reporting progress at weekly project meetings, CAM Reviews, etc.
Requires detailed and comprehensive and in depth understanding across a number of marine engineering disciplines and is able to discuss and understand context and implications of technical issues across the marine engineering discipline.
Broad knowledge of the nature of the work in all phases of the engineering life cycle especially with regard to the achievement of project phase milestones. Understands the relationship between activities in different phases of the engineering lifecycle.

Specific to post:
Requires detailed and comprehensive understanding of Naval Ships systems engineering and engineering governance. Is able to discuss and understand context and implications of technical issues across a number of engineering disciplines. Task driven, but able to appreciate the overall purpose of the project and proactively adapt those tasks as required.
Experience of managing Design / Detail Design effort or equivalent experience in a heavy industrial/marine environment
Degree qualified in Platform Engineering related discipline.
Experience to Chartered Engineer Standard. Required to become chartered if not already.
Substantial experience in Platform engineering roles at all levels.
