We have an opportunity for a MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER with nuclear industry experience to be based nr Whitehaven in West Cumbria
The role of the successful Candidate will be to provide engineering expertise to enable the design, build, testing, development, commissioning and on-site installation of equipment and modification of existing facilities.
Must be experienced in troubleshooting and fault finding of existing nuclear equipment and plant. The candidate shall have good knowledge and understanding of mechanical design in an active nuclear environment.
Accountable to the Engineering Manager for allocated mechanical or multi discipline engineering projects, following the Company project delivery procedure and working with the PM to produce scope of works, estimates for cost and schedule, and project plans for the project.
Interface with customers, key stakeholders, and contractors.
Work alongside PMs to ensure that work is delivered to meet time, cost, quality and safety requirements.
Produce purchasing specifications, assess tender documents and select suitable contractors for project contracts, progressing the procurement process throughout contract life cycle to ensure delivery of a quality product.
Working with other designers, and in accordance with technical specifications, produce concept, preliminary and detail designs to site regulations.
Liaising with commissioning teams, safety assessors, stakeholders and other engineering disciplines as required.
Where required produce working instructions, risk assessment, quality plans, commissioning sheets, and maintenance instructions.
Work with Persons Organising Work to prepare work packs for equipment installation and commissioning
Produce CE marking, PUWER, LOLER, and/or pressure regulations assessments.
Produce handover documentation. Record and archive project and technical files
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or closely related subject and a high level of experience in mechanical engineering.
Experience working in the nuclear sector and have a working knowledge of Sellafield Site Procedures.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, to enable ideas and concepts to be clearly communicated to customers, regulators and key stakeholders.
Proven track record of problem solving and seeking solutions.
DESIRABLE SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in the use of 2D or 3D CAD design packages.
Experience of producing PMPs, Design Justification Reports, Memos and attending multi discipline HAZOP reviews.
Proven track record of working with contractors and the external goods and services supply chain.
Strong leadership qualities.
Excellent organisational and planning skills.
