This is an exciting opportunity to lead, build and develop the newly formed mechanical business unit within a larger UK division, with significant career development opportunities and autonomy.
We are seeking an experienced mechanical contracts manager to lead the mechanical Design and Installation for projects within the North East of England and across the wider UK, with a minimum of 10 years relevant mechanical design and installation experience. Ideally of chartered status, the candidate will be able to lead multi-discipline mechanical design and installation teams of up to 20 people.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 Develop and build mechanical business unit (Design & Installation) within overall division;
 To oversee, lead and project manage the full mechanical Design & Installation process for mechanical projects across the UK, including associated design and installation teams;
 Individual must organize and plan mechanical design activities, create construction documents and lead installation/construction and perform project management in conjunction with other disciplines;
 To allocate mechanical engineering resources to projects in conjunction with relevant Managers;
 Effective leadership and management of mechanical Installation teams and Design Engineers to achieve agreed engineering goals across multi sector projects;
 To solve complex mechanical engineering issues and problems requiring significant judgement and technical expertise, across process, piping, structural;
 To provide mechanical technical advice and lead mechanical design and delivery teams;
 To develop effective engineering processes and standards and support the need to meet statutory and industry requirements;
 Maximise and oversee commercial aspects of all mechanical design and installation projects;
 Ensure mechanical project and systems are compliant with applicable codes, cost effective and meet the desired design criteria while adhering to budget and schedule guidelines;
 Ensure projects are completed safely and reliably with minimal impact to customer;
 Successfully interface with customers and maintain effective communications on all mechanical aspects;
 Lead the pricing and bid compilation of all mechanical projects;
 Establishment of mechanical supply chain to enable UK wide project delivery;
 Work with Business Development team on developing mechanical opportunities, actively identifying and pursuing market opportunities.

Skills/ Knowledge Required

Broad and extensive knowledge of:
 Mechanical design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria;
 Mechanical design, construction, and operations within energy, power, oil & gas, petrochemical, defence, manufacturing, process and utilities sectors;
 Engineering administration;
 Practices, processes, and expectations with respect to mechanical contracts management and engineering;
 Strong organizational, people management, and technical skills;
 Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities;
 Knowledge of client design requirements across multiple sectors;
 Prepare contingency plans for the unexpected (pro-active, forward-looking);
 Strong analytical skills for assessing problems and developing corrective actions;
 Excellent time management and priority-setting skills; ability to effectively advance multiple activities concurrently;
 Ability to interface professionally and effectively with all levels of management;
 Excellent people skills including leadership and influencing others;
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
 Use Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, AutoCAD, Project and similar software to complete various tasks associated with the work above;

Personal Requirements and Qualifications

 Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of mechanical engineering design, installation and contracts management experience delivering complex engineering projects;
 Ideally of Chartered status;
 Experience within industrial energy, power, oil & gas, petrochemical, defence, manufacturing, process and utilities sectors;
 A proven track record of delivering to client expectations with a recognised provider of mechanical engineering services;
 Credible mechanical contracts manager with appropriate gravitas and able to contribute at Senior Management Team level;
 Experience with a variety of mechanical systems, such as piping, process, structural.
