Purpose of role:
Or Client has recently created an embedded Systems Engineering and Integration team within the overall Marine Systems team. The purpose of the Systems Engineering/Integration team is to provide embedded capability alongside the Marine Systems design engineers to ensure the successful integration and de-risking of the Power & Propulsion, HVAC, Auxiliary, Electrical Distribution and Platform Management Systems.
Within the Systems Engineering team, the role of Senior Engineer - Marine Systems Verification & Validation is a key part in developing and delivering the overarching Marine Systems Integrated Test, Evaluation and Acceptance Plan.
The role will work across the Systems Engineering and system design teams to enable a comprehensive understanding of the Marine Systems ITEAP to be developed, early integration tests to be scoped and plans produced that support the progressive verification and validation of Marine Systems. Further, the role will work closely with the Test & Commissioning teams to ensure their involvement within the V&V plans and to scope the degree of on-ship testing.
In order to achieve this, the Senior Engineer - Marine Systems Verification & Validation will be required to manage his/her work effectively and will be required to work closely with managers and other engineering teams.
Key Technical Skills
Strong expertise and experience in the planning and delivery of integration tests.
Understands the verification and validation phases of the engineering lifecycle and can translate testing activities to requirements.
Familiar with the use of DOORS.
Able to gather, filter and process information that will be used to integration plans. This includes discussing with and eliciting information from SMEs/Stakeholders.
Ideally has familiarity with large-scale power generation and control systems within the marine environment.
Tasks and Activities:
Undertake assessments of Marine Systems integration risks and identify integration testing strategies that can be used to mitigate such risks.
Develop detailed plans for the progressive verification and validation of Marine sub-systems; scope integration test plans and enable their delivery.
Assess the Marine sub-systems' designs and identify any additional diagnostic requirements or equipment that may be needed to enable the progressive verification and validation plans.
Prepare test documentation, assess the outcome of integration tests and prepare test reports; support the system design teams with resolving problems originating from integration tests.
Support the development of the overarching Marine Systems Integrated Test Evaluation & Acceptance Plan.
Link de-risking and verification plans to the Whole-Ship and sub-system technical requirements.
Keep up to date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices), and supply technical support and expertise to others as required.
Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development.
Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
Ensure work is delivered within a timely output that meets the needs of the programmes.
Except in extraordinary circumstances, execution of the work will be achieved without continual supervision: instead a definition of the task outputs, budget and time-scale constraints will be agreed with the supervisor at the outset.

Appreciates and can articulate the value of the engineering lifecycle and the relationship to the Lifecycle Management Process. Appreciates that there are technical reviews to ensure product viability.
Appreciates and can articulate the need to ensure that products are acceptably safe and that product and system safety assessments form part of the design process.
Has had some exposure to regulatory and statutory requirements of the product and understands potential liabilities.
Has an appreciation of the requirement that the environmental impact of our activities is sustainable in the long term.
Strong experience in engineering or a defence related industry
Strong understanding of the verification and validation phases of the lifecycle.
Typically qualified to HND level or above in a technology, engineering or science related discipline
