Our Kings Norton Client has a requirement for a number of Manufacturing Engineers to commit to a 12 month fixed term contract.


As part of the Projects team supporting the transfer of aircraft programs to a new manufacturing site, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for creating a work transfer package and supporting the subsequent host site training, FAI and qualification.


Work Transfer Package:

Review all manufacturing instructions (e.g. SOPs) and related quality, process and production documentation for accuracy and completeness, updating where needed. Include any appropriate test procedures, control plans and key characteristics;

Create a complete list of (1) the complete bill of materials; and (2) all consumables used both on the product and associated test materials;

Create a value stream map and flow chart of the production method; Create PFMEA documentation on the current production line;

Review all tooling drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness updating where needed.

Create a pack consolidating all product documentation related to manufacturing, tooling and technical specification as a transfer package;

Apply Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement methodology to all areas as appropriate;


Deliver training package; Support Train the Trainer activity at host site;

Provide technical support and assistance to host site;

FAI and Qualification:

Support the host site through FAI and site qualification; Support the ramp up to steady state manufacture rate; Provide technical support and assistance to host site;


Review, plan & implement the most efficient and cost effective production methods to manufacture sub-assemblies and finished goods;

Develop processes in line with lean manufacturing principles / 5S / Six sigma tool's;

Detailed knowledge of aerospace product development and associated manufacturing processes Strong background within a manufacturing environment or equivalent Aerospace and/or Tier One Automotive);

Experience of utilisation of Six Sigma and associated tools (PFMEA, Kaizen, Poka-yoke, Kanban);

Familiarity with quality management systems, product audits, Global ME policies and similar; Experience of writing manufacturing instructions and plant documentation;

Analytical approach to problem solving;

Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment Extremely detail-oriented

Great troubleshooting skills (e.g. Practical Problem Solving, DMAIC etc.) Excellent organization and time-management

Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously

Identify potential process / equipment changes to improve production quality and process times; Computer Literate;

Engineering or Manufacturing Related Degree or equivalent experience; Experience and capability with 2D CAD software would be desirable

Additional Information

  • 25% of the time will involve international travel (China and California, USA) and it is often at short notice so flexibility is required.
  • There will be some UK travel
