Linux/Red Hat Engineer
Location: Remote / Crawley or Doncaster (80% remote)
Duration: 6 Months
Rate: £500.00 per day (umbrella)
This is an exciting opportunity for a Linux Engineer to join our Multi-Disciplinary Agile Squad focused on transforming our Linux IT Infrastructure and to provide technical support services to a diverse business. This is a 3 year initiating programme developing into a stable service with continuous product improvement. Working day-to-day as a squad member providing delivery of technical transformation of the estate and securing legacy assets with security measures. Assisting with project delivery and contributing to overall technical excellence within the squad and continuous service improvement.
The computing operating environments are currently on premise hosted with a view to increasing adoption of cloud services in the future.
What you will be typically doing:
- Secure Linux legacy assets with a standard security wrapper
- Implement supported tool sets to manage the Linux estate
- Liaising with internal customers to upgrade systems and support technical change processes as part of wider team
- Automation of lifecycle management activities such as upgrade, patch and anti-malware protection, reporting, log management, right-sizing & decommission
- Actively participate in the service evolution of underpinning platforms & products
What you will typically have:
- Hands-on experience of implementing and supporting large-scale Linux physical & virtual workplace environments within a large enterprise
- Extensive experience of security compliance across the Infrastructure estate and undertaking vulnerability remediation activities
- Experienced as senior technical resource, highly motivated and capable of understanding and resolving complex technical problems
Technical skills from
- Predominately Linux RHEL versions from legacy through to 8.5
- Some Ubuntu, Centos Fedora as an advantage
- Linux patching management tools such as Satellite
- Creating Linux scripts, Ansible, Bash, Puppet, Python
- Practical experience with AD integration for *NIX Operating Systems, Centrify IDM/Puppet
- Security and monitoring products such as McAfee anti-malware Solarwinds
- Familiar with OS image/Template management
- Practical experience in the configuration and support of VMware’s converged Infrastructure stack including the vRealize automation tools,
- In depth knowledge of Active directory Services including DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
- Practical Experience with NetApp cDOT storage
- Knowledge of network and firewall technologies
- Experience of application migration and upgrade activities
General skills
- Familiar with working within a secure environment
- Ability and desire to learn new skills
- Ability to assist with the creation of system design, functional specifications and operations for Infrastructure projects and solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Capability to author and update infrastructure, support and procedural documentation
- Experienced in working within a complex IS/Engineering environment
- Excellent stakeholder management
