Job Title: Interim Head of Logistics & Supply Chain

Location: Cheshire Region

Salary: Competitive Basic+Package (INSIDE IR35)

Contact Length: 12 months

The business is looking to recruit an Interim Head of Supply Chain & Logistics to manage and oversee operations within the logistics department, including the transportation and storage of goods, vendor selection and negotiation, distribution, and inventory control. Pivotal to the role is the ability to develop a logistics strategy in line with the changing retail market to ensure that internal and external customer needs are met

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all logistics activity is compliant with legislative and health & safety requirements
  • Lead the design, definition and implementation of the strategy and roadmap for logistics within the context of the broader Group strategy and strategic logistics
  • Lead the planning of all key logistics functions within an overall integrated planning (Sales and Operations Planning) process across all business operations
  • Influence and promote operational excellence and consistency across the structure to drive performance against key metrics (e.g. stock availability, quality of service)
  • Manage cost to provide a competitive solution for customers whilst providing required service levels
  • Lead, advocate, and role model best practices with regards to logistics tools, processes, methodologies and ways of working
  • Manage and develop warehouse operations, using proven robust technologies to increase efficiency, drive performance and minimise costs
  • Select and manage high quality third party logistics partners that operate across multiple regions to maintain robust transport networks and stock availability across all stores and ensure deliveries are OTIF
  • Ensure that the logistics function continuously implements opportunities to improve, simplify and standardise ways of working to maximise efficiency and effectiveness

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Degree/Masters level, preferably in supply chain, logistics, operations or business administration
  • In-depth understanding of the factors involved in operating an efficient logistics network within an multi-channel environment managing customer deliveries, stock returns/recalls and efficient routes to market
  • Detailed knowledge of managing third party logistics partners across the international and domestic logistics network and how to drive performance and efficiency Knowledge of planning inbound and outbound stock movements and controlling logistics capacity across both domestic and international networks
  • Understanding of the key drivers in customer service, manufacturing, transport and warehousing operations and how this is integrated with logistics operations
  • A strong knowledge of the full product lifecycle together with an understanding of the factors that have a material impact on cost, for example packaging, minimum order quantities, standard pallet configurations
  • Significant experience in and detailed knowledge of the end-to-end logistics operations across multiple business units
  • A working knowledge of supply chain systems and processes within a manufacturing environment
  • A high degree of commercial understanding of what drives the business
  • An understanding of how to integrate sustainability throughout all processes and decision making in supply to create more value socially, environmentally and financially
  • Detailed knowledge of the wider logistics environment and how to bring insights from other industries (e.g. Retail, FMCG) to implement complex logistics solutions that drive continuous improvement and operational excellence (e.g. automation)
  • SAP experience would be beneficial
