Instrument / Electrical Plant Maintenance Technician - Carrington - 6 Months+

JOB PURPOSE

Facility/Plant Managers representative in absence of Facility/Plant Management, and on-site representative to internal & external contacts, services, authorities & customers.

To work as part of the operating team alongside the Operating Service Centre (OSC) to ensure safe, efficient and reliable execution of all aspects of plant operation, on the local (mother) plant and its associated satellite plants.

As part of this team, to be primarily responsible for all aspects of safety, health and environmental compliance, site security, and instrument/electrical maintenance locally. To lead on managing contractors and projects which are primarily instrumentational/electrical in nature.

Primary responsibilities for the planning and execution of routine maintenance as designated by SAP and non-routine maintenance as and when required at the Carrington site and the Carrington satellite plants.

Shared responsibilities with the Operating Service Centre (OSC) for operation, optimisation, productivity and best practice replications locally.

To provide out of hours assistance for plant & satellite emergencies and operational/maintenance issues on a call-out basis.

To support maintenance of compressors for the packaged gas depot and supervision of contractors facility wide when needed.

To drive productivity and keep maintenance and project expenditure to a minimum for all facility activities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall EH&S responsibility for the plant and it's satellites
  • Work alongside OSC operators as required as the on-site local team representative
  • To have expert knowledge of site operations for in depth troubleshooting and OSC assistance
  • Assist major on-site plant start/stops as requested from OSC
  • Provide satellite plant on-site troubleshooting and operational tasks
  • Ensure that all production facilities are maintained to a safe and serviceable condition, so that they can consistently attain their performance targets
  • Ensure compliance to site statutory, mechanical integrity & preventative maintenance programmes
  • Work with Plant Manager & Maintenance Support manager (MSM) to ensure relevant & optimal planned maintenance programmes
  • Work with technical staff and plant management to solve plant and equipment problems as they arise in the most effective way.
  • Carry out routine maintenance activities & rectification of defects in a timely manner.
  • Support corrective maintenance work associated with plant and equipment failures (breakdowns)
  • Work with SAP & GMM (Global Materials Management), ensure correct spares parts inventory management
  • Support plant management to develop & comply with site maintenance budget, and ensure works are carried out in a cost effective manner.
  • Actively participate in the planning and execution of planned major maintenance activities, such as plant shutdowns.
  • Provide local technical support where appropriate to your trade discipline and subsequent training and development, for the completion of small projects on site.
  • Provide supervision to the local instrument/electrical maintenance team (i.e. Instrument/electrical apprentice), visiting euro-maintenance instrument/electrical technicians and contractors.
  • Identify and be actively involved in development and execution of maintenance related productivity ideas.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Completion of recognised instrument apprenticeship or proven skills in this area.
  • Substantial knowledge of Air Products safety regulations and operating practices
  • Good interpersonal & team working skills (Customers, Regulators bodies, OSC operators).
  • Self motivated.
  • To be able to work alone on occasions when on site at the Carrington satellites.
