Instructional Designer/Instructor - Mission Planning

Bristol (split between working from home and Onsite) - 6 month duration (extension likely) - Pay rate £38.30 p/h PAYE basic (£42.92 including holiday pay) or £50 p/h Umbrella

An excellent opportunity has arisen to become a key member of a growing team dedicated to the production, preparation and delivery of training material for Mission Planning and Target Modelling products for our defence clients domestic and export customers.

Training material and training courses will be designed, produced, reviewed and delivered, to the end users at the training facility in Filton, or at MOD facilities.

The Mission Planning and Target Modelling products are large software products used frequently by the customer; you will be primarily conducting instructional design and delivery for these Mission Planning products in support of a current Export Customer. This training development is key for the weapon deployment onto the Typhoon aircraft for this customer.


You will be embedded and working with the engineering development team so an ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment is essential. An ability to present course material and to support in course presentation is essential.

Key areas of the role include:

  • Completing Training/Learning Needs Analysis on the Mission Planning products
  • Design, development and evaluation of training content
  • Provide training support to a range of different projects and programmes
  • Manage the review process of the training material and the final delivery to the customers
  • Close working with the Systems Engineering team
  • Establishment of positive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Deliver formal classroom training to small groups of end users


The successful candidate will have proven ability in a learning and development role, ideally having worked to Defence Systems Approach to Training guidelines and holding relevant training and development qualifications.

Mandatory requirements of the role include:

  • Background of working with defence contractors, both domestic and export end users, and military customers.
  • Technical expertise in conducting and delivering of Training Needs Analysis.
  • Expertise in training design and development of DSAT compliant training documentation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplined teams and dealing with multiple stakeholders and customers.
  • You will have a demonstrable ability to prepare PowerPoint material and training support documentation.
  • Excellent 'can do' attitude and pro-active behaviours.
  • Appropriate Engineering qualification or experience.
  • An understanding of the principles of Systems Engineering would be desirable.

Additional Information:

Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the tasks involved the successful candidate will be required to hold a live UK MOD Security Clearance (SC level) prior to starting in this position.

This role has been deemed Inside IR35.
