This contract will fall outside of IR35 and will allow for remote work. The contract will initially be part time, working 2/3 days until Mid Feb and then full time after. When full time, 3 days will be worked remotely and 2 in our client's offices in London.

The Project Innovation Lead will take responsibility for the development of our clients Local Area Energy Planning digital tool in close collaboration with gas networks, local authorities, the regulator, and government. This is a strategic innovation project that is required to meet our clients ED2 commitments. It will involve supporting the application for Strategic Innovation Funding (SIF) by our project partners. If successful it will require management of the project through Discovery, Alpha and Beta phases of the SIF funding framework.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The Innovation Project Lead will require good problem solving and project delivery capabilities to deal with challenges and opportunities associated with future low carbon networks for which no 'blueprint' currently exists. The role requires extensive breadth of thinking, not limited to technological solutions but open to innovative out-of-box solutions to the future challenges and opportunities impacting the business. The role requires an experienced project manager who can manage innovation projects and who possesses most of the following skills:

Essential

  • BSc in computer science or a related field, knowledge of software, computers, networks, software and hardware. Understanding of data management and analysis techniques

and/or:

  • BEng in electrical or electrical & electronic engineering or an MEng in engineering, science or management
  • Demonstrable experience in a technical, analytical role in the electricity industry
  • A proven record in managing and delivering digital and technical projects and demonstrable ability to transfer these skills to the electricity sector.

Desirable

  • Project/programme management qualification at APMP / Prince2 level or equivalent
  • Excellent understanding of the challenges and opportunities posed by low carbon technologies and electric vehicles to the electricity networks
  • Good understanding of transition of distribution networks to Distribution System Operators (DSO) and smart grids
  • Good understanding of flexibility/demand side response (DSR) activities
  • Good understanding of SCADA, Telecommunications and Active Network Management assets and strategies
  • Good understanding of design, planning and operation of electricity distribution or transmission networks
  • Good knowledge of electricity network assets
  • Good understanding of electric vehicles and other low carbon technologies
  • Familiarity with cost-benefit analysis
