In-House Lawyer - Permanent position based Northwich, Cheshire. Part-Time 22.5 hours per week.

Tata Chemicals Europe (TCE) is the UK's sole producer of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, as well as the market leading producer of salt. We are also one of Europe's leading producers of these and other related products.

Job purpose statement:

Working closely with the General Counsel as part of a legal team of 2, you will provide an in-house legal function, offering legal services and support to the Tata Chemicals Europe group companies. You will have both autonomy and support as required. You will provide advice or manage the outsourcing of advice on the legal aspects of all parts of the business and a specific functional responsibility to manage the Group's land assets, in order to maximize their value to the Group in line with business objectives.

The role is for 22.5 hours per week which could be worked over 3 or 4 days to suit. We promote flexible working.

Principal accountabilities:

To advise and assist senior management in the legal aspects of TCE's operations.

To take responsibility for the servicing of the legal requirements of the business, including commercial transactions, statutory compliance, property matters and disputes to ensure that these are dealt with expeditiously and professionally or outsourced and well-managed so as to provide the business with a cost effective legal service.

To provide legal support to the sales and procurement teams in contract negotiations to ensure that the risks and liabilities to the business are minimised.

To implement policies and procedures in respect of regulatory requirements, such as product recall, insurance claims, etc., to ensure that the business is fully compliant and there are clear and communicated procedures to follow.

To assess the TCE land assets and create and implement a long term strategy to generate value.

To manage all land leases, easements, etc., to ensure all legal deeds, agreements and documents are properly maintained.

To work with property, planning and other advisers, including rates agents, to manage land assets.

To develop and maintain appropriate systems for managing TCE's legal, company secretarial and claims requirements, to allow timely access to documents and information.


Qualified solicitor, barrister, Chartered Legal Executive or equivalent of min 4years PQE.

Broad commercial legal experience.

Ability to provide pragmatic, robust advice on a wide range of matters, at all levels of the business.


Knowledge of property sector.

Previous in-house experience.
