Position Overview

Based at Flotta Oil Terminal, the HSE Advisor will provide the day to day HSE support to the site


Implementation of company HSE Management Systems at site level
Provision of specialist HSE advice to management and workforce
Interfacing with Contractors and Service Providers on all HS&E matters
Be a role model and support compliance with the company Golden Rules for Safe Operations at all times
Support the involvement of Safety Representatives, iCARE Champions and Environment Champions
Support and guide Terminal teams to ensure:
Clear HSE objectives and expectations are understood and met
Work is conducted in full compliance with company policies, procedures and Safety Management System and any statutory requirements or obligations
Compliance with all relevant HSE policies and procedures where appropriate
All team members actively participate and support all HSEA plans, initiatives and improvements
Activities are carried out in accordance with ISSoW including comprehensive and detailed Risk Assessments and Toolbox Talks

Key Duties
Report all accidents and incidents, lead or participate in incident investigations as required
Carry out regular audits to ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures and site directives
Provide support, advice, guidance and instruction to support the safe execution of all activities on site
Ensure all relevant HSE information is effectively communicated to the relevant people in a timely manner
HSE KPI performance measurement, trend analysis and input to monthly reports
Development and delivery of Health, Safety and Environmental training, promotional and induction material
Liaison with external bodies, e.g. HSE,SEPA, Security & Emergency Services, Local Council and other NGOs where required
Assist in the planning, organising and performance of site emergency response exercises in accordance with company requirements
Lead and participate in all relevant HSE meetings
Ensure safety and emergency equipment is maintained in accordance with the company maintenance management system
Ensure comprehensive records and logs are maintained and effective handovers are carried out at shift and crew change
Maintain effective communication with all work colleagues at all levels
Comply with all competency, appraisal and development procedures in line with the role requirements
Keep up to date with and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and be able to apply it in the workplace

Education Attainment & Accreditation

NEBOSH Certificate required (Diploma or equivalent preferred)
Technical Member of IOSH (Tech IOSH)
Environmental qualification desirable (e.g. Associate membership of Institute Environmental Management and Assessment)

Professional Skills & Experience

Relevant experience in either onshore or offshore oil and gas industry (will also consider candidates with significant experience in similar onshore Hazardous Industries such as continuous processes petrochemical, nuclear or power generation)
Technical appreciation
Emergency Response experience essential
Supervisory Management skills and experience desirable
Good understanding of HSE legislation, management systems and practices
Appreciation of Human Factors and Major Accident Hazards (Causation and Prevention)
Strong facilitator of improvement and change management
Results and goal orientated

Interpersonal Skills & Qualities

Able to command respect and trust from all staff
Pro-active and able to work with minimal supervision Bullet points required to outline the type of personality, characteristics and personal qualities required
Able to communicate at all levels of the organisation
