Morson are working in exclusive partnership with Amey Consulting, a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy, who are recruiting for a Highways Manager to work within their busy roads and highways division in Birchwood, Warrington. You will be a Chartered civil engineer with experience in roads and highways design, looking to join a centre of excellence for design, working on complex high profile projects with Highways England and local authorities.
This particular Amey team will be based at Highways Englands offices in Birchwood, Warrington and you will be solely working on a £50m, 5 year design services contract that Amey are delivering. The contract involves the design, maintenance and delivery work on Area 10 that will cover North West of England, connecting the cities of Manchester and Liverpool, and surrounding areas and covering Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and South Lancashire.
The modern office, with outstanding facilities will house a highly experienced team who between them hold many years design experience within the highways industry.
What is the purpose of this role?
The Highways Manager will form a key part of the Senior Leadership team on the contract and will lead the Highways Design team. The ideal candidate will be expected to mentor, guide and encourage their team members through delivery in various areas of often complex projects. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that projects within their discipline are delivered on time, to budget and to quality standards. As well as focusing on project delivery, the Highways Manager will manage a training and development programme for their area of the business.
Additionally, you will provide assurance and compliance with all relevant technical standards and provide guidance for less experienced staff and professional development and training is actively pursued.
What will this role involve?
Provide client focussed design delivery
Execute principal designer duties under CDM 2015 and lead CDM within the team
Lead design team to deliver the specified Task Order outcomes are delivered on time, to budget and to the required specifications
Ensure project requirements are fully met and technically sound design solutions are produced
Ensure compliance with all associated design, health, safety and quality standards
Provide advice and guidance for staff, leading development of staff to professional registration
Check and approve Task Order estimates
Drive innovation and continual improvement throughout the design team
Lead on health and safety within design, with focus on safe design for construction, maintenance and demolition.
What are we looking for?
Candidates should have a proven background in civil engineering and roads/highways design and be a Chartered Engineer. Equally, candidates with a relevant vocational qualification and a sufficient number of years experience working for a competitor will also be considered.
You will have experience of managing teams of multi-disciplined engineers, both functional and matrix.
You should be/have:
- Computer literate and thoroughly conversant with MS office suite and relevant engineering software packages.
- Post-qualification experience in highways
- Good experience of the co-ordination of the design process and team management
- Good communication skills dealing with clients, project partners, supply chain, elected representatives and the public
- Client focused approach to service delivery
- Experience of CDM
