Safety, Health & Environment Business Partner - Northwich/Middlewich

Who are we?

Tata Chemicals Europe (TCE) is one of the UK's leading producer of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, as well as the market leading producer of salt. We are also one of Europe's leading producers of these and other related products.

There are exciting times ahead for us as we embark on major investment across all our manufacturing sites in Cheshire to grow the business and deliver reliable high quality products into increasingly diverse markets.

To support our ultimate goal of zero harm, we are seeking a Professional SHE Business Partner to support two of our manufacturing sites in Northwich and Middlewich, where around 150 of our employees are based, some working a 24 x 7 shift pattern.

What will you be doing?
You will provide support to the sites and their Operations Manager, acting as the Safety, Health and Environmental owner for the sites with the support of the Safety Officer. Amongst your responsibilities you will be:
Acting as the key site interface with regulatory bodies (HSE, EA), ensuring that significant issues are fed back to the senior management team of the sites and ensuring site priorities are aligned with HSE and EA requirements.
Conducting safety audits and senior management safety tours in accordance with the annual programme and coordinating local response to regulatory, external audits, and other external site visits related to Health, Safety and Environment e.g. ISO 14001.
Developing KPIs and systems to report and act on SHE trends, analyzing this performance data to identify areas for improvement in line with regional and local priorities.
Taking ownership of and developing the site safety auditing systems as well as managing our Work Safe Online database for the site, to provide safety information.
Assisting in the preparation of site specific risk assessments, health and safety procedures and relevant standard operating instructions.
Assisting in the formation and delivery of projects that improve site safety and environmental performance, in compliance with relevant HSE guidance and ACoPs, and address emerging issues and concerns.
Applying relevant legislative environmental requirements to environmental solutions.
Provide support for the Operations team when required (coordinating RCA for accidents and incidents, advice on SHE procedures, updates on legislation etc).
The role will be primarily based at Middlewich, but also covers our Winnington site. The job holder will be expected to attend meetings and events at the other TCE sites in Northwich.

What skills and experience will you need?

The role requires the individual to have a breadth of experience across the broad range of Health, Safety and Environmental issues and to be credible when meeting appointed persons (e.g. Health and Safety or EA inspectors) and to develop specialist knowledge in key relevant areas.

The ability to apply health and safety legislation and guidance in an understandable, pragmatic and user friendly manner, whilst challenging proactively unsafe conditions, practices and poor standards.

We are looking for someone with NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent with 5 plus years experience within a relevant chemicals environment.

Holding a relevant environmental qualification such as IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management would also be of advantage.

Experience of working within a team and establishing the adoption of safe working practices across the area of responsibility.

Experience of identifying a large range of potential hazards in the work environment and achieving improvement in compliance with regulations, resulting in improving Safety, Health and Environmental performance.

Experience of undertaking accident incident and or near miss investigations and applying a range of root cause analysis techniques.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and an ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

We acknowledge the challenges and understand we have a journey ahead of us, but for the right person this is an exciting opportunity to make a difference.
