Morson has an exciting permanent opportunity for a Health and Safety and Training Controller to join the Wildcat Maintenance Support team on site at RNAS Yeovilton, near Yeovil in Somerset.


WMS Safety and Training Controller:

  • Planning, Organising and facilitation of all WMS training at RNAS Yeovilton.
  • WMS Maintenance Error Management System (MEMS) Co-ordinator.
  • WMS Laser Safety Officer
  • WCM Radiation Protection Officer


Appointed as the WMS Safety and Training Controller responsible for:

  • Managing the WMS MEMS.
  • Co-ordinating and arranging all technical training for WMS personnel as well as developing and delivering Induction Training, MEMS Training and Human Factors Training.

Specific responsibilities:

Co-ordinate inputs for the monthly Leonardo Helicopters' Aircraft Services Business Continuity Meeting.

Ensuring that any Lasers used by WMS are used in accordance with current Laser safety instructions detailed in Yeovilton Air Engineering Standing Orders (VLAESO) and the Wildcat Compound Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (CIETP).

Liaise with Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton Radiation Protection Officer.

Managing all WCM radiological equipment in accordance with the regulations given in:

JSP392 (Instructions for Radiological Protection) and VLAESO ensuring all minor radiation sources are recorded.

Report the spillage of, or damage to radioactive material and report any process that is carried out in such a manner as to expose persons unnecessarily to ionising radiation.

Forecasting future training requirements and publishing the monthly training plan for all WMS personnel.

Advising the Management on training and qualifications required by personnel to support all aspects of current and future operations and their Engineering Authorisations.

Maintain and control individual Personnel Training Records to the format in WMS OP 1102 (i.a.w. Core Instruction ISO.16.1). Ensuring that appropriate Training Records, Competencies and Qualifications are maintained to support Engineering Authorisations.

Ensure that all HSE issues are correctly raised at the WCM weekly engineering meetings, discussed; decisions taken and actions agreed are properly recorded and implemented satisfactorily.

Carry out all WMS Environmental Risk Assessments to meet RNAS Yeovilton requirements.

Arrange training for external courses via Leonardo Helicopters' and Morson's training department and military training agencies or directly to industry such as:

  • Ground Vibration Analysis (HUMS) initial and follow-up training.
  • Precision Termination Process PTP Training.
  • GOLDesp (Work Recording and Asset Management System) training.

Plan, Co-ordinate, Implement, Review and Develop training syllabi for the following internal training courses to meet training needs for all WMS personnel:

  • Induction Training of all new employees.
  • Laser Safety Brief.
  • Manual Handling Training.
  • Chemical Spill Training.
  • Training on the use of the hangar overhead cranes and lifting equipment.

Co-ordinate the WMS MEMS ensuring all occurrence reporting is recorded and actioned appropriately.

Carry out WMS Maintenance Human Factors Training i.a.w. RA 4806.

To take an active role within investigations with regards to being the Safety and Training Controller.

To assist with and undertake internal quality Audits in support of the WMS Quality Management System.

Provide reasonable support to other Support Service positions during times of absence due to holidays etc. and peak activity periods.


Preferably Military Service trade training to SNCO, or equivalent engineering apprenticeship / civilian status, with an understanding of military customs and practices.

Minimum 3 years' experience as a SNCO or civilian equivalent.

NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health.

Radiation Protection Supervisor qualified.

Appropriate training will be given on appointment IAW MAP 01 Chapter 4.1 (Manual Handling Techniques, Overhead Gantry, Laser Safety Etc.).

Preferably a Maintenance Human Factors Instructor course.

Preferably, ISO 18001:2007 OHSAS Lead Auditor.
