Our client is a high profile international business who, due to continued expansion, are looking to recruit a Head of Health and Safety.

Purpose of the role:

To provide strategic guidance and ensure the Projects Business Unit meets its statutory requirements. Identify and deliver solutions to improve Health and Safety within the business unit.

Main duties / responsibilities:

*Management of the SHEQ agenda across the projects BU to ensure all project are undertaken within external and internal standards and guidelines
*Ensure adequate systems are in place to meet all statutory and SHEQ obligations
*Ensure accurate recording systems are in place for near misses, accidents, RIDDOR and Incidence/Frequency Rates
*Embed an effective auditing process that delivers key data, allow the analysis of data, the establishments of trends and investigation of preventative measures
*Create and implement a programme of culture change to ensure health and safety remains at the core of all decision making, whilst ensuring due consideration for commercial and operational pressures
*Ensuring all employees within the BU have the appropriate H&S training, qualifications and development
*Lead key investigations and liaise with stakeholders, ensuring detailed investigations are undertaken and full reports/ recommendations are provided to the Projects Board
*Hold close out meetings where applicable, to ensure incidents/ investigations are fully close and firm action plans are recommendation are embedded in order to prevent further occurrences
*Support other internal functions to ensure systems and resources are appropriate to manage the risks across the BU
*Provision of accurate and up to date information to the Board
*Form strategic relationships with the HSE and other appropriate industry forums
*Support key bids, attend tender interviews, lead competitive dialogue bid process to demonstrate that H&S is top the agenda
*Undertake comparisons/ benchmarking against competitors and undertake improvements to improve performance levels
*Leading the implementation & development of management systems related to function including successful accreditation to relevant ISO/OHSAS standards, Achilles, CHAS as required
*Participate in and lead where required divisional strategic projects & campaigns including process review & development



*Previous experience of a senior Health and Safety role within the construction or related industries
*Experience of working on civil engineering, mechanical or electrical facilities
*Detailed of understanding of construction technology and methods
*Demonstrable experience relevant SHEQ legislation
*Previous experience of managing complex and large-scale projects
*Experience of managing both consultants, sub-contractors and supply chain


*NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety British Safety Council Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health City & Guilds Level 5 (NVQ) Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice NCRQ Level 6 Diploma in Applied Health and Safety or equivalent qualification
*NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety
*Chartered membership of IOSH
