The Checkout Systems division (TESCU) comprises departments in the UK, France and Germany. The division provides a central competence for Functional Verification (FV), Functional Verification Infrastructure (FV-I) and Engineering & Ops. [SW] Products, for spacecraft platforms, payloads and equipment.
Within TESCU, FV relates to all activities for verifying & validating a system from a functional perspective. In the UK, this means responsibility for the resourcing and technical management of FV implementation for Earth Observation, Navigation & Science missions such as ExoMars rover and Solar Orbiter.
In terms of specific responsibilities, the FV team provides support to the integration of avionics equipment, test specification co-engineering with design teams, development of test procedures, production of test scripts, investigation of test anomalies and providing functional testing expertise to other entities.
The interactions with the different [design] system architects and project entities requires the FV team to develop extensive knowledge of the spacecraft from a functional perspective.
FV implementation includes the testing of the following subsystems: Attitude and Orbit Control (AOCS), Data Handling (DHS), Failure Detection and Incident Recovery (FDIR), Payload and System Control.
The successful candidate will join one of the Systems Engineering teams working on science projects (such as Solar Orbiter or ExoMars Rover).
The candidate will participate in the preparation and anomaly resolution of functional tests and will be in charge of the preparation, implementation, and execution of these tests on simulated and hardware in the loop real-time test benches.
In this context, functional testing covers Attitude and Orbit Control (AOCS), Data Handling (DHS), Failure Detection and Incident Recovery (FDIR), Payload & System Control. Training on the specific processes and tools used by Airbus DS for this purpose will be given as necessary.
Co-engineering of system validation test specifications.
Establish the necessary and sufficient configuration to perform the FV task.
Validation of the functional chains through end to end open loop tests (AOCS, DHS, etc.)
Validation of the nominal and reconfiguration functions of the sub-assembly through closed loop tests
Development of Automated Test Procedures (ATP) by working within a specified process and utilisation of Templates and FV Tools against a test specification - this includes liaison with the various project architects and domain specialists.
Execution of the ATPs on the various test benches followed by test data analysis and Test Report Compilation - this will include liaison with specialist areas, for support on the result data analysis, technical management and Product Assurance (PA).
Investigation of anomalies and diagnosis - determination of root cause proposal for work-around or solution.
Provide expertise and support to OPS/AIT/ design architect/system engineers
Engineering degree (minimum Bachelor) in relevant subject (aerospace, electrical, automatic control etc.)
Proven capability of analysing and understanding complex systems (system thinking)
Basic software programming and scripting skills
Unix / Linux - administration, script development, etc
Fluent in English (written and oral)
Organisation and presentation skills
Effective at working in a multi-disciplinary international team
Able to work with minimum supervision
Master's degree in relevant engineering subject (aerospace, electrical, automatic control, computer science)
Experience of one or several space sub-systems: AOCS, DHS, FDIR, Thermal, Power etc.
Knowledge of Data bus (1553, CAN, SpaceWire etc.)
Occasional periods of shift work required (10% to 20%) with notice and with 20% rate uplift
Shift pattern is alternating weeks of 06.00 to 14.00 and 14.00 to 22.00.
