Role Overview

In this Firmware Engineering role, you will be asked to support development for a new project in the Electronic Warfare product range.

Key Responsibility Areas:

You will be responsible for the creation of FPGA designs using VHDL, integration of modules with existing designs, and working within a structured FPGA design framework.

You will also be responsible for devising and implementing all necessary design verification tests and supporting documentation and following of the Firmware development process.

Tasks/Responsibilities

Required

  • Ability to create innovative VHDL based FPGA designs
  • Able to undertake advanced verification techniques using VHDL
  • Working knowledge of current FPGA technologies from Xilinx.
  • Proficient in the analysis of system level requirements and deriving detailed FPGA requirements
  • Knowledge of methodical approaches across the full FPGA design lifecycle
  • Skilled in de-bugging of FPGA designs
  • Ability to define complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route
  • Communicating effectively with different disciplines both verbally and in written form
  • Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team, liaising with Systems, Hardware and Software engineers from requirements definition through to product release
  • Communicating effectively with different disciplines both verbally and in written form

Advantageous

  • Able to peer review FPGA designs
  • Proven ability with Xilinx Vivado
  • Proven ability with Mentor Graphics FPGA development tools including HDL Designer.
  • Proven ability of implementing processor cores in FPGAs
  • Knowledge of Matlab, Simulink and HDL coder
  • Knowledge of the hardware side of designing FPGA boards
  • Basic knowledge of writing software (eg in C) to aid testing and integration
  • Understanding of the concepts of radio communications, modulation and RF

This is mainly an office-based role using display screen equipment, but you will also work in a development lab and occasionally in a production area in a clean room environment. Working to tight deadlines either on a regular or ad-hoc basis will be required. Occasional travel within the UK and abroad with overnight stays may be required. The nature of the programmes involving firmware design means that any candidate being considered for the position must be capable of achieving full UK SC security clearance and in addition the candidate will require the ability to access caveated information such as UK eyes only and ITAR.
