FIRMWARE ENGINEER - 6 months+ contract - Glasgow (remote)

We're recruiting for a Firmware Engineer for 6 month contracts for our client in Glasgow, however a significant amount of the work could be undertaken remotely.

The Firmware Engineer would be responsible for the design and development of firmware for Fuzing systems in close collaboration with the Systems, Electronics and Software teams. Working to formal safety processes (eg. DO256), including producing firmware documentation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS

The role will involve the following activities

  • Designing firmware using VHDL or High Level Synthesis Languages
  • Verifying firmware using VHDL or Hardware Verification Languages
  • Writing and reviewing design documentation
  • Generating specifications, proposed architectures, and development or verification plans
  • Participating in peer reviews and project design reviews
  • Engaging with a multi-disciplinary team across the project (systems, software, safety, etc) to develop an optimum solution and identify technical risk
  • Providing support to integration, debugging and system level testing
  • Report progress of work against cost, schedule and performance
  • Support the bid process through generation of estimates and consultancy on firmware solutions

Projects involve using the latest industry-class development tools for FPGA and System-on-Chip hardware technologies. Work is carried out to a structured firmware design process.

TECHNICAL SKILLS / PROVEN ABILITY

Week seek a strong demonstrated ability in firmware design roles, including at least a subset of the following:

  • Development of firmware/digital design in VHDL or Verilog
  • Verification of firmware designs using VHDL or SystemVerilog
  • Analysis of firmware requirements and developing code to meet those requirements
  • Familiarity with Xilinx / Intel (Altera) / Microsemi (Actel) design flow and third-party synthesis tools
  • Debugging of firmware designs and supporting integration and test at hardware level
  • Ability to manage own tasks and technical activities as a technical lead for an engineering manager
  • Strong ability in writing technical reports/ documentation
  • Good, pro-active communicator

Desirable skills/knowledge but not essential to role:

  • Knowledge of FPGA architectures and design tools: Xilinx (Vivado/ISE), Altera (Quartus), Microsemi (Libero), Lattice (Diamond)
  • Xilinx 7 series, Ultrascale+
  • Mentor Graphics Modelsim, QuestaSim or Cadence Incisive
  • Knowledge of Verification Methodology: UVVM, UVM
  • Knowledge of C, C++,
  • Knowledge of scripting languages: TCL, PERL, Python
