Finance Manager - Permanent position based Northwich

Tata Chemicals Europe (TCE) is the UK's sole producer of sodium carbonate (soda ash) and sodium bicarbonate, as well as the market leading producer of white salt. Our heritage dates back to the 1870s and we have been an important contributor to the economy of Cheshire ever since.

We have exciting times ahead for us as we embark on major investment across all our manufacturing sites in Cheshire to grow the business and deliver reliable high quality products into increasingly diverse markets. The Finance team will be at the core of this growth, being a key enabler on the journey.

We have an exciting vacancy for a Finance Manager in our business and this opportunity presents a varied, challenging and full workload associated with a £200m turnover business which is part of an international quoted group. With two bank groups, four distinct Business Units and multiple UK legal entities to manage, the team is always busy. TCE serves more than 1,000 customers worldwide and has hundreds of active suppliers, so there is a constant focus on enhanced governance, systems development and reporting excellence.

Job purpose statement:

To manage financial and transactional processes of the trading companies of the Tata Chemicals Europe (TCE) group, with a focus on strengthening the control environment.

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, this is a strategically important role and under your leadership your small team of people will need to deliver an exemplary service. Your commitment to high standards of compliance and corporate governance is of paramount importance, however, we require more than this - we want someone who will also be proactive in addressing our evolving business challenges. In doing this you will continuously seek to develop yourself personally, develop your team's capability and add value through improved engagement, both within and outside the business.

You will be a person who enjoys working with people, whether this is working with colleagues on their governance and internal control responsibilities or when championing ideas for improvements to systems, processes, data management and stakeholder engagement. You'll need to be a hands-on, innovative person who is unafraid of being direct, but who can also adapt to new ideas and challenges from colleagues.

Your ability to solve problems, keen communication skills and enthusiasm for the business will ensure that you are a valued member of the team. TCE is both a successful business and great place to work and the appointment of the right person to this role will help to ensure that this continues.

Principal Accountabilities

Lead the multi-entity period-end Trial Balance closure process ensuring that the posting and reconciliation of payroll, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and intra-group transactions is completed accurately and in accordance with group reporting deadlines.

Lead the continuous improvement of balance sheet reconciliation and financial control processes, including a particular focus on the Purchase Ledgers.

Manage the Accounts Payable team (two direct reports) and drive improvements in the end to end Procure To Pay process, including providing internal training to colleagues where this will help to improve the overall understanding of and compliance with governance processes, and input into SAP ERP change management process where opportunities are identified.

Manage compliance processes in respect of VAT, duty, imports and exports, Intrastat, Landfill Tax and other environmental taxes.

Monitor and report on entity level P&L and balance sheet variance analysis and aged working capital. Drive actions to understand and resolve the root causes where anomalies are identified.

ACCA / CIMA or equivalent
