Field Test Engineer

Main Job Functions: Perform integration and test activities comprising of development of test documentation, execution of assigned tasks in Field environments. Perform Field Change modification to existing Designs as needed; Perform field testing, troubleshooting, maintenance in carborne and wayside equipment and other external tasks.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs on-site installation and maintenance of CBTC equipment for carborne and wayside systems
  • Performs commissioning tests and records results
  • Identify problems detected during tests and corrects them as required
  • Supports maintenance of CBTC deployed systems, Carborne and Wayside
  • Supports Troubleshooting and repair CBTC equipment as required
  • Provides support of test Carborne and Wayside activities and the planning of field activities
  • Provides technical support in all operational matters in the conduct of integration and commissioning test activities
  • Reviewing all results of tests and test certificates for completeness, accuracy and integrity prior submission for final approval and submission to customer
  • Works with diverse departments and becomes involved in all phases of integration, commissioning and support
  • Promotes customer relations / company credibility
  • Investigate/Troubleshoot system anomalies through analysis of data files, design documentation and interaction with development departments

Job Requirements and Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of automatic train control systems concepts and principles
  • Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of specialization through successful completion of moderately complex assignments
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheet, and databases is essential
  • Demonstrated fluency and understanding/comprehension in oral and written English
  • Field experience in a rail transit installation, test or support environment or similar technology application is of significance
  • Experience in task planning, performance tracking and reporting
  • Strong process orientation and discipline to ensure compliance with both Corporate and Customer procedures
  • Critical thinking, able to identify and implement better efficiencies and process improvements
  • Effective communication skills to interact professionally with all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Flexibility to take on additional projects and adapt to changes in priorities
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Occasional domestic and international travel (approximately 10%)

Environmental Conditions:

  • May involve work outside in all weather conditions
  • May involve work in confined spaces
  • May involve work on elevated tracks

Job Requirements:

  • Wear protective equipment such as safety vest, hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses, and flash light, when required.
  • Position requires flexible work schedule. Work hours varying in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek
  • Must be willing to travel the entire system
  • Federal regulations may require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol

Education and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of safety standards and practices required at project site
  • Experience in installation and testing of train control systems
  • Experience in a multi-unit project delivery environment a strong asset
  • Working knowledge of Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) products with respect to installation support and testing a strong asset
  • Experience in deploying fixed block signaling systems a strong asset
  • Typically, 1-2 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above
