Field Engineering Technician

Job Title: Field Engineering Technician
Location: NYC

Main Job Functions: Perform integration and test activities comprising of development of test documentation, execution of assigned tasks in Field environments. Perform Field Change modification to existing Designs as needed Perform field testing, troubleshooting, maintenance in carborne and wayside equipment and other external tasks.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

* Performs on-site installation and maintenance of CBTC equipment for carborne and wayside systems
* Performs commissioning tests and records results
* Identify problems detected during tests and corrects them as required
* Supports maintenance of CBTC deployed systems, Carborne and Wayside
* Supports Troubleshooting and repair CBTC equipment as required
* Provides support of test Carborne and Wayside activities and the planning of field activities
* Provides technical support in all operational matters in the conduct of integration and commissioning test activities
* Reviewing all results of tests and test certificates for completeness, accuracy and integrity prior submission for final approval and submission to customer
* Works with diverse departments and becomes involved in all phases of integration, commissioning and support
* Promotes customer relations / company credibility
* Investigate/Troubleshoot system anomalies through analysis of data files, design documentation and interaction with development departments

Job Requirements and Essential Skills:

* Knowledge of automatic train control systems concepts and principles
* Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of specialization through successful completion of moderately complex assignments
* Excellent organizational and communications skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills
* Computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheet, and databases is essential
* Demonstrated fluency and understanding/comprehension in oral and written English
* Field experience in a rail transit installation, test or support environment or similar technology application is of significance
* Experience in task planning, performance tracking and reporting
* Strong process orientation and discipline to ensure compliance with both Corporate and Customer procedures
* Critical thinking, able to identify and implement better efficiencies and process improvements
* Effective communication skills to interact professionally with all levels inside and outside the organization.
* Flexibility to take on additional projects and adapt to changes in priorities
* Advanced MS Office skills
* Occasional domestic and international travel (approximately 10%)

Environmental Conditions:

* May involve work outside in all weather conditions
* May involve work in confined spaces
* May involve work on elevated tracks

Job Requirements:

* Wear protective equipment such as safety vest, hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses, and flash light, when required.
* Position requires flexible work schedule. Work hours varying in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek
* Must be willing to travel the entire system
* Federal regulations may require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol

Education and Experience:

* Working knowledge of safety standards and practices required at project site
* Experience in installation and testing of train control systems
* Experience in a multi-unit project delivery environment a strong asset
* Working knowledge of Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) products with respect to installation support and testing a strong asset
* Experience in deploying fixed block signalling systems a strong asset
* Typically 1-2 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above
