The Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) and the Electricity Settlements Company (ESC) sit at the heart of the delivery of the UK's goals for secure, affordable and sustainable electricity. Run as a private, not for profit limited company, the LCCC primarily provides the mechanism behind Contracts for Difference (CfD) a contract introduced by the government to infinitive's investment in secure, low-carbon electricity.

By enabling smaller low-carbon generators to gain entry through long-term revenue stabilisation, the LCCC plays a pivotal part in the UK's Energy Market Reform, the biggest change to the electricity market since privatisation.

Reporting to: Financial Controller

Role Summary:

The purpose of this role is to be responsible for producing the LCCCs and ESC's annual IFRS accounts, providing monthly and year-end reporting to BEIS and cash/working capital management.

Key Reponsibilities:

  • Production of statutory accounts for LCCC and ESC, ensuring compliance with IFRS and other reporting and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and update Accounting policies in the light of the development of the business and changes to IFRS Main contact for external auditors (National Audit Office) for interim (December) and year end audits (March)
  • Planning and organising year end procedures including production of timetable and instructions, communication of responsibilities and ensuring appropriate resources are in place
  • Ensure compliance with all legislation and regulation in relation to LCCC's financial affairs, especially the Energy ACT 2013 and the associated regulations
  • Work closely with BEIS including manage their reporting requirements including:
    • Consolidation packs for interim and year end reporting;
    • Monthly financial results;
    • Draw down and repayments of loan amounts;
    • Data required for budgeting and levy control framework
  • Forecast and budgeting of total LCCC and ESC cashflow, working closely with the head of Forecasting
  • Cash flow forecasting reporting to HM Treasury
  • Responsibility for tax and VAT compliance, queries and liaison with tax advisors
  • Supporting the Reporting and Planning Manager as and when required - especially during the month end process
  • Preparation of papers for Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee as required
  • Implementation of internal and external audit recommendations

Skills/Experience Required for the Role:

  • A fully qualified accountant with a recognised accounting body i.e. ACCA; CIPFA; ICAEW; ICAI or ICAS, or CIMA, or a European or international equivalent qualification
  • Up to date technical knowledge of IFRS
  • Experience auditing or producing full IFRS year-end accounts;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience of analysing data from an ERP system
  • Experience of tax and treasury would be desirable
  • Understanding of public sector reporting would be an advantage
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish relationships with a range of people across the business and outside to support delivery of business outcomes
  • Be willing to be flexible to meet the challenges of a start-up business. Including setting up new processes and then to continually improve them
  • Strong attention to detail
