Our client a leading Oil & Gas Operator are seeking an Environmental Adviser for an on-going contract role based in Aberdeen.

Candidates should have a strong Oil & Gas, North Sea background and have a least 5 years experience in a similar position.

Position Overview

The Environmental Advisor will act as environment focal point with regards to identification and management of environmental risks, compliance and continuous improvement. In addition, they will provide guidance to the greater business within all environmental areas; chemicals, emissions to water, waste, spill prevention & preparedness, but more specifically they will act as subject matter expert and lead on emissions to air and radiation.

Accountabilities

  • Coordination and management of all aspects of Atmospherics compliance and embed responsibilities for key actions within the business improving ownership across departments
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant regulations and best practice
  • Provide direction and support to Asset Based Environmental Advisors within all environmental areas
  • Develop a close working relationship and work proactively with onshore and offshore teams to provide timely and accurate environmental advice and maintain a clear framework for verification activities
  • Support & promote the environmental element of the SEMS and roll out changes to onshore teams / designated site(s)
  • Actively seek areas for environmental performance improvement and develop sustainable efficient solutions
  • Take lessons learned from incidents and audit findings and employ them within the designated site(s) and designated subject area
  • Assure the quality of incident investigations performed by site(s) / operations and their compliance with company procedures
  • Follow and comply with company Golden Rules, Procedures, Policies and hold others to account to do the same
  • Enable change and continual improvement within the HSE Department and wider organization
  • Performance management of vendors within specialist subject matter areas
  • Act as Technical Contract Owner (TCO) for identified Tier 1 contracts within specialist subject matter areas

Key Duties

  • As subject matter expert develop and maintain procedures / tools and assurance techniques to allow all sites to comply with the associated regulations and meet best practice as efficiently as possible
  • Coach and mentor Asset Based Environmental Advisors to grow their understanding of Atmospherics empowering them to manage the subject matter for their Assets
  • Provide clear and concise expectations around Atmospheric data collection / management and the importance of valid, representative raw data. Additionally understanding and highlighting of data risks within the subject matter area
  • Work closely with the Emissions Manager in support of emissions forecasting, emissions reduction strategies and knowledge input within specialist subject matter area
  • Provide ad hoc operational support to site(s) coordinating permit updates / renewals and general compliance advice
  • Engagement with operations / wells / Decommissioning to establish and implement management strategies for environmental issues inclusive of specialist subject matter areas
  • Internal and external facing Environmental Advisor and subject matter expert
  • Provide direction and support to site HSE Advisors and Environment Reps as and when required
  • Act as focal point for regulatory inspections covering specialist subject matter areas
  • Support and participate in SEMS audits
  • Monitor compliance and track performance against targets and / or regulatory limits within specialist subject matter areas
  • Deliver the environmental audit and assurance programs
  • Continuous improvement of the environmental elements within the SEMS
  • Support incident investigations so that lessons can be learnt and are effectively communicated across the site(s)
  • Support delivery of the environmental element of the company Annual HSE Plan, and sites' HSE Plans
  • Support delivery of the Annual Environmental Statement
  • Act as delegate for environmental Technical Authority as required
  • Fulfil role of out of hours contact as required

Education Attainment & Accreditation

  • Relevant degree or post graduate diploma (or equivalent) in an environmental discipline or a core science would be preferred, or considerable technical experience in a similar role

Professional Skills & Experience

  • Strong background in Atmospherics
  • Proven track record of delivering EU ETS verification
  • Previous experience as an Environmental Advisor for an offshore operator is favoured
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK regulatory regime
  • IEMA Lead Environmental Auditor
  • OPEP Level 3
  • OPITO approved BOSIET with Compressed Air EBS
  • Investigation Training (TapRooT, Kelvin Top-Set etc.)
