Environmental Specialist

We are looking to recruit an Environmental Specialist to work 37.5 hours (5 days) per week supporting our Wales & South West Environment Team.

We would also consider on a Job Share basis for 2 x P/T roles to make a Full Time equivalent working days can be flexible to suit the individual.

You will be working with a range of business functions including environment, operational, asset management, engineering, estates, planning and third party works.
The role will require regular travel to sites throughout the Wales & South West Region. Initially, due to Covid 19 restrictions, the post will be home based, once restrictions are lifted the reporting base will be at our Gloucester Office.

Responsibilities
Develop and deliver Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA) to assess the impacts of works on the internationally important Severn Estuary.
Help implement our clients Environmental Management System (EMS) including its Environmental Appraisal procedures
Monitoring and reporting on compliance with regulatory requirement and corporate environmental standards
Undertake initial site assessments /ecological surveys/ environmental audits and communicate issues arising with colleagues in the Heritage and Environment Team Identify implications of environmental legislation for the Trusts activities and provide practical advice on necessary measures to protect the Trusts interests on the waterway natural environment
Provide advice on waste management, contaminated land and water quality management across a range of Trust business activities to mitigate potential adverse impacts and identify and deliver opportunities for appropriate enhancements on our waterways
Work with other colleagues within the Heritage and Environment team and others to respond to environmental issues and incidents
Liaise with external regulators and stakeholders in relation to environmental protection and management

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
Degree in relevant subject Practical understanding of current environmental legislation including demonstrable experience of Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA)
Proven experience in environmental protection and management, resolving issues and devising processes to ensure and maintain legal compliance
Broad knowledge of environmental good practice
Experience surveying for protected species bats, water voles, otters, badgers Proven experience in the application of practical knowledge within a business environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Membership of relevant professional institute (CIWEM, IEMA, CIA, IHBC, CIEEM)
1 years post-graduate experience.
Valid driving licence is essential
